Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
The Players were ecstatic, which was why they loved the King of Winter.
The King of Winter was a man who could effortlessly navigate between being reasonable and unreasonable, often pushing the boundaries until they were practically on the ground.
“This, I…” Britt the Grizzly was dumbfounded, stammering. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
The King of Winter had already silenced all possible retorts, and he was restrained by an angel, unable to move.
“Since you have nothing more to say, and the evidence and witnesses are all present, then, you shall die!”
Xi Wei raised his sword above his head with both hands.
“Wait!” Britt the Grizzly howled, “Your Majesty Winter, I can give you all my possessions, as long as you spare me.”
“You despicable thief!” Xi Wei sneered dismissively. “Those things are all yours because you stole them from the Winter Kingdom’s treasury. How dare you now claim them as your own? You’re beyond shameless!”
Britt the Grizzly: Σ(っ °Д °;)っ!
How could such shameless words come from the mouth of a human king?!
Who was the shameless one here?!
Britt the Grizzly tried to beg for mercy, but a thick sword scabbard was shoved into his mouth. It was Lewenstein’s sword scabbard.
“Mmph mmph mmph!”
Facing the descending sword blade, Britt the Grizzly’s eyes bulged with rage. He shook his head frantically, trying to struggle with all his might, but it was futile.
However, just as Xi Wei was about to strike Britt the Grizzly down, countless verdant vines suddenly emerged from the soil, entangling Xi Wei’s arms. The vines possessed immense strength; even with Xi Wei channeling all his Qi, he couldn’t move an inch.
Lewenstein paused, his expression turning stern as he looked in the direction of the World Tree.
“Everyone, stay put!” he boomed, three pairs of angelic wings unfolding from his back, his aura soaring to its peak in the material plane.
“Loli, Ruo Yi, listen to Lewenstein.”
Xi Wei quickly beckoned the approaching Loli and Ruo Yi back. These two fools only listened to him and completely disregarded Lewenstein. Fortunately, Lewenstein was magnanimous and wouldn’t dwell on such trivial matters.
“The World Tree Lord has awakened.”
Lewenstein’s voice was heavy.
“So, will I be in trouble after it awakens?”
Xi Wei actually had a rather good impression of the World Tree Lord.
After all, the deities behind Loli and Ruo Yi belonged to the World Tree’s faction. He would likely have to deal with the World Tree in the future.
This was also why he was willing to reason with Alice Frost.
But he wasn’t willing to reason with Britt the Grizzly.
This had little to do with their individual strength.
The primary reason was that Alice Frost’s authority was officially conferred by the gods.
Now, hearing Bryant speak so gravely, he thought something serious was about to happen.
It was just Britt the Grizzly.
At worst, they wouldn’t kill him.
They could cripple him and confiscate his treasury. Given the players’ development speed, within a year, they would likely be swarming with legendary-level beings, albeit perhaps just a group of pseudo-legendaries with mere ranks but no true enlightenment.
“Cough, cough, you might be fine, but I might be in trouble…” Lewenstein’s gaze fixed on the swaying branches of the World Tree, his tone growing increasingly somber.
Xi Wei: “?”
The Angel of Mirth then began to elaborate.
“Ten thousand years ago, the Holy Dragon Lord created the God of Light, the God of Death, and the World Tree. These three were the original supreme deities. The rest of the gods were either subordinate gods created by these three, or were born through their own enlightenment or by relying on faith. Due to the World Tree Lord’s immense power, the Holy Dragon Lord imposed a restriction on her, commanding the World Tree to remain forever in the form of a simple-minded, kind-hearted little girl…”
Hearing this, Xi Wei found it unremarkable.
However, he had never heard of such a restriction before.
Perhaps this was why the World Tree was the only deity allowed to remain in the material plane; her personality and alignment were permanently fixed.
Lewenstein continued:
“Five thousand years ago, I was born. I am an emanation of the God of Light’s will, or rather, I represent one aspect of the God of Light. All angels represent different aspects of the God of Light, and I represent…”
“Represent what?” Xi Wei asked curiously.
Lewenstein seemed hesitant to speak.
But Xi Wei was one of them, and he would eventually learn about this. He took a deep breath and cleared his throat, saying, “Don’t laugh at me, but I represent the lecherous aspect of the God of Light. If I die, the God of Light will no longer be lecherous…”
Xi Wei: “…”
Unexpected, yet somehow fitting.
Lewenstein was indeed quite lecherous.
Based on the strength of different angels, it should represent the weight of that aspect within the God of Light. Lewenstein was a mid-level angel, second only to the four archangels. This implied that the old God of Light himself was quite lecherous, but he usually didn’t show it.
He felt like he had discovered some earth-shattering secret…
Would he be silenced for it?!
Xi Wei glanced at the sky. It was cloudless.
“So, what did the lecherous you do?” Xi Wei turned to Lewenstein, feeling like he had grasped the crux of the matter.
At this moment, the World Tree was emitting a green light, which was gradually condensing. All the elves had emerged, shouting excitedly, proclaiming, “The World Tree Lord has returned!” and “The World Tree Lord still remembers us!” Some of the more emotional old elves even knelt on the ground, weeping.
“It’s probably as you suspect.”
Lewenstein pursed his lips, recalling the events.
“Back then, the World Tree Lord was just a child, knowing nothing. I plucked some leaves from her and gave them to her, tricking her with candy. She found out later and said she would beat me up every time she saw me.”
“Then why are you still here?!”
Xi Wei’s mouth twitched.
Thank goodness…
He had thought Lewenstein had gone so far as to steal the very clothes of the World Tree Lord.
“And then…”
“There’s more!?” Xi Wei raised an eyebrow.
“Then, eight thousand years ago, I stole the Vena Holy Garment that the Goddess of Beauty had given to the World Tree Lord and gave it to my old flame, the Moonbeam Angel.
Originally, the World Tree Lord intended to declare war on me. However, Ragnarok began at that very time. Before she could deal with me, she was caught in the war along with the elven race.
As she was the only deity in the material plane, her divine kingdom was herself, so there was no such thing as subspace. To the old gods, she was the most conspicuous existence…”
Xi Wei looked at Lewenstein’s embarrassed face, thinking that he wouldn’t be surprised if this Angel of Mirth was suddenly struck down by another deity.
