Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Being thrown out of the dungeon like garbage, Bai Yuekui and her team members were all stunned.
“What’s going on with this dungeon today? This isn’t what the guide said!”
“Did the official team secretly change it?”
“I don’t know!” The bald Loli frantically scrolled up and down the official website, but there were no similar announcements.
She felt incredibly frustrated.
The King of Winter’s kick earlier had almost burst her chest, how could she tolerate such a thing?
She had to go back into the dungeon and get her revenge!
“No announcement, no secret changes, which means what we encountered today might be a hidden situation.”
“Let’s go, let’s try again!” Bai Yuekui made a decisive choice. Their Blood Rose team was not one to give up easily.
Less than half an hour later, they were once again ruthlessly thrown out by the dungeon.
This time, the King of Winter was even more outrageous, starting with Qi Slash – Sweep, followed by a ground slam, and then an execution.
Bai Yuekui refused to believe it and led her team in for a third attempt.
On the third try, Loli appeared when the King of Winter was at full health. She wasn’t in the King of Winter’s arms, but on the tower behind him, and in an unselectable invincible state. No matter how much health they took down, Loli would heal him back up. During this time, vines that almost covered the entire screen provided support for the King of Winter.
What the hell was the point of fighting this way!
“Today might not be a good day to tackle this dungeon. Our luck is a bit bad. Let’s try that nun and black sword dungeon instead,” Bai Yuekui was also beaten into a daze and planned to switch to a simpler dungeon to regain her confidence.
Just as she was about to enter, a group of players from the second test round were thrown out of the nun and black sword dungeon.
Bai Yuekui stopped and heard their captain complain:
“Holy crap, this is really weird. Normally, the nun blinks in space at most ten times, but today she’s been blinking over fifty times non-stop. The whole person is just twitching wildly in space. The black sword is even worse, infinite stealth followed by a backstab to the butt. The ranged poison darts have lock-on. What the hell are you playing at?”
“Damn, can you believe it? I went in as a priest, and that black sword chased me relentlessly. Three seconds after entering the dungeon, my great Priest was gone!”
At this moment, another group of players from the third test round emerged from the Clemon trial dungeon.
The leader was still an acquaintance, (Player Name) (M). He had been making some side income by guiding new players through dungeons these past few days, but now he appeared dejected.
“Didn’t you say this dungeon was the easiest? Didn’t you say the old man was very slow?”
A female player from the third test round looked dazed, clearly having had her faith shattered by the repeated defeats.
“Has the BUG been fixed? They can’t use stealth to interrupt the old man’s skills anymore. Damn it, can you believe it? My assassin was revealed by the old man! It was okay the first time, but it happens every time?!”
(Player Name) (M) covered his face and ran his hands through his messy hair in frustration.
He had run the Clemon trial dungeon no less than fifty times, but today it was like encountering a ghost. As soon as he used stealth to approach Clemon, Clemon would always break aggro, casually swing his sword to push him out, and utter a new line: “Cowardly rat who hides your head, come out and face your death!”
Bai Yuekui mused, it seemed that the increased dungeon difficulty was not an isolated incident. All dungeons had become more difficult. To prove this, she took the Blood Rose team to challenge all the dungeons from easiest to hardest, except for the King of Winter’s trial.
They finally stopped at the nun and black sword dungeon.
If the King of Winter’s trial was about gradually extinguishing hope after initially giving it.
Then the nun and black sword dungeon was a bit more merciful, offering no hope from the start.
The nun blinked infinitely in space, making it impossible to even touch her clothes. The black sword was in a state of semi-stealth, its presence minimized. If you weren’t careful, it would suddenly appear behind you, ready for a kidney shot.
It was said that these dungeons had their difficulty reduced, and that players were experiencing a nerfed BOSS’s combat power.
One could imagine that the King of Winter being almost killed by the nun and black sword working together on the battlefield back then wasn’t because the King of Winter was too weak, but because these two ghastly creatures were indeed disgusting and unpredictable.
Then how strong must Ruo Yi, who instantly killed the black sword and the nun, have been?
Fortunately, the Illusion Prism had not yet opened Ruo Yi’s dungeon, otherwise, the players would likely have faced even more torment.
“Forget it, let’s not run dungeons today,” Bai Yuekui sighed helplessly. The official team had 100% secretly changed the dungeon difficulty, but the announcement probably hadn’t come out yet. Many players were likely reporting it now, and an announcement would be out soon.
After a round of dungeon runs, the durability of her Master Grade Long Sword was almost gone. Bai Yuekui led her team to the Inner City blacksmith shop to find Enzo the bald blacksmith for repairs.
As soon as they reached the blacksmith shop entrance, they heard a player’s miserable howl.
“Holy hell, a 10% Fine Grade drop rate! I saved up eighty scrolls, and all I got were a bunch of trash! 42 weapon coating powders, 13 weapon grips, 17 plain weapons, 8 forging repair hammers! Do your reward pools actually contain Fine Grade and Master Grade weapons?”
Enzo leaned against the blacksmith shop threshold, puffing on a leaf cigarette.
“Master Grade and Fine Grade weapons are hanging on the wall. Everything is transparent and above board. If your legs are weak, don’t blame the road for being uneven. One more nonsensical word and you’ll be blacklisted.”
“You!” The player’s face turned red. Helpless, he finally left sheepishly.
There were many players like him who liked to save up their weapon gacha scrolls and pull them all at once, because they firmly believed that quantity leads to quality.
Bai Yuekui also liked to save them up to pull together, because she had plenty of money.
However, not getting a single good drop in eighty pulls was too tragic, making him a top-tier unlucky person.
She shook her head regretfully and placed her beloved Long Sword, ‘Lightning Edge’, on Enzo’s forging table.
“Enzo, same as usual, the deluxe weapon repair package.”
“That will be one Gold Coin~”
Bai Yuekui paid, and Enzo took the weapon into the blacksmith shop and began hammering away.
Weapon repairs also had a chance of destroying the weapon.
Normal repair had a 5% chance of destroying the weapon, free of charge.
Deluxe repair had a 1% chance of destroying the weapon, costing 10 Silver Coins.
Luxury repair had a 0.1% chance of destroying the weapon, costing 1 Gold Coin.
Bai Yuekui always chose the luxury weapon repair, although many people called her wasteful.
But what did it matter?
She had money!
Speaking of which, Enzo’s movements with the forging hammer today seemed unusually wild. He probably ate too much at noon.
Just as Bai Yuekui was thinking this, there was a loud “Bang—” from inside the blacksmith shop.
Immediately followed by a gruff voice:
“My apologies! I hammered it to scrap. Here are the weapon scraps, take them. Gold Coins are non-refundable.”
Enzo walked out expressionlessly, casually tossing a piece of blackened firewood at Bai Yuekui. He then continued to lean against the blacksmith shop threshold, looking up at the clouds rolling across the horizon and puffing on his cigarette.
