Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Will… kill the original City Lord?
The Players looked at Xi Wei with strange expressions.
So, the distribution of the City Lord’s power was entirely Xi Wei’s decision, without seeking the consent of the City Lords of nearby cities, nor any intention to discuss it with them?
However, the Players thought again.
Given the strength of the King of Winter, there was indeed nothing to discuss.
This was a fantasy world, and the King of Winter’s power alone was enough to destroy the entire Kalun. It was not a world with limited human strength like ancient or medieval times, and this was quite in the King of Winter’s style.
So, the Players were only slightly stunned, and then they happily accepted the King of Winter’s arrangement.
If they could get the City Lord position themselves, it would feel more fulfilling!
But then another problem arose.
It was fine for the Players to fight for the City Lord position themselves, but what if they couldn’t win?
As the Players wondered about this.
(Player Name) (M) had already asked first:
“Your Majesty! The City Lord of my city seems to be a Star Source level mage. I can’t possibly defeat them!”
“No matter!” Xi Wei waved his large hand, saying dismissively, “I’ve already thought of a solution. Here, take one of these Bald Heads each. If you can defeat the Lord, fight them. If you can’t, let the Bald Head help you!”
After speaking, Xi Wei paused, his tone softened, and a gentle and refined smile appeared on his face:
“But we in the Wintery Empire cannot be too barbaric. It is best to persuade people with virtue. You should all try to reason with those City Lords first. If they are unwilling, then it will not be too late to fight and kill them.”
His tone then turned cold and sinister: “…And if you are going to kill, make sure to kill them completely. Leave no one from their family, old or young, to avoid any future acts of revenge in your territory, which would be troublesome!”
The Players felt that the King of Winter was at least reasonable based on his previous words, but upon hearing the latter part, they gasped. If it came to ruthlessness, the King of Winter was truly ruthless; they couldn’t compare!
“Alright, most of your job locations will have teleportation arrays. If you really can’t get there, then teleport to a nearby large city and ask a Bald Head to give you a ride.”
Xi Wei waved his hand and left after saying, “You can all go and take up your positions.”
The magic energy shuttle was now ready.
He was going to take the remaining Players who were just observing to return to the Wintery Empire on the magic energy shuttle.
…
Aryk looked at the Fear Demon King, who was about three meters tall, massive, and ferocious. He swallowed. If he brought this thing to his territory, the townsfolk would fear him on the surface, but who knew what they would be saying about him behind his back.
What if, within two days of taking office, rumors of the Lord eating children started spreading? Wouldn’t all missing children in the city, regardless of the reason, be blamed on him?
Not good!
This was very bad!
So, Aryk decided to negotiate with the Fear Demon King.
“Esteemed Bald… uh, no, Your Excellency the Demon King, could you change your appearance? Something a little kinder…”
“Kind?” The Bald Head scratched his shiny head.
As a Champion Level demon, changing forms was not difficult for them.
Xi Wei had ordered them to temporarily obey the commands of these little ones, so the Bald Head said nothing. It muttered something, and with a bang, it was enveloped in a black mist. After the mist gradually dissipated, it revealed its new form – an Abomination, like a stitched-together monster.
“How about that, human? An Abomination is a lower-level demon than I am. Does it look much kinder now?”
Aryk: Σ( ° △ °|||)︴
To be honest, he still felt the previous Bald Head looked kinder.
“Um, could you change into a form closer to a human? Although this form is much kinder, it might be difficult for humans to accept. After all, we are heading to a human city.”
Aryk looked troubled and tactfully made his request again.
“Tch! Troublesome!” The Bald Head said helplessly.
It patiently used its transformation ability again.
This time, it directly modeled itself after Aryk.
Then, before Aryk’s astonished eyes, it transformed into a three-headed giant with the exact same face as Aryk.
“Human! How about this?” Three faces of Aryk looked at Aryk, a ferocious smile on their lips.
“Could you change again? Not so many heads, and not exactly like me.”
Bang!
“Human, what about this?”
The Bald Head transformed into a purple-skinned ogre.
“Change again…”
Bang!
“How about this?”
This time, it directly transformed into a tank-like Succubus, even winking at Aryk.
“Change again! Your body size is too large!”
…
After much torment, other Lords might have already reached their territories.
Aryk had not yet departed.
He looked at the Fear Demon King, who had now transformed into a tentacled monster covered in sharp teeth, and sighed wearily.
“Just go back to your original appearance. It was my misunderstanding. You looked very kind before.”
He finally accepted the fact that the Fear Demon King’s aesthetic sense could not completely align with his own.
These demons always had to add some features that expressed evil.
The most normal form it took was that of a thin human, but with a three-meter-long, half-meter-wide initiation weapon.
Who could possibly endure that?!
