Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)

Aryk had no confidence that he could kill the Legendary-grade demons, not even a little bit. He could at most kill a hundred or so of the demons and Orc Allied Forces below.

But he had help!

The Bald Head!

Aryk turned to look at the Fear Demon King. Seeing the Fear Demon King turn his head, cross his arms, and look away with a haughty expression, he put on a fawning smile.

“Um, Your Excellency Fear Demon King, you should be able to handle these demons, right?”

“There’s no way,” the Bald Head rolled his eyes. “Human, they are all Legendary-grade, three of them. I’m only Champion Level, one of me. Am I supposed to just be a toothpick for them?”

“This…” Aryk was stunned.

Seeing the Bald Head’s nonchalant demeanor, he had thought the Bald Head was capable of resolving the current predicament.

He had never expected that the Bald Head was actually unconcerned and unwilling to get involved.

What was he to do? He couldn’t just let the City Lord position he had just obtained slip away.

Seeing Aryk scratching his head and pacing anxiously, the Bald Head stopped teasing him. He extended a claw, pinned down the pacing Aryk, and offered a suggestion:

“Although I cannot settle this matter, you can.”

“Me!?” Aryk pointed at himself, disbelieving. How could he possibly deal with three Legendary-grade demons? Was this Bald Head joking with him?

“That’s right. All you need to do is charge forward and shout at those Legendary demons that you are the Lord appointed by the King of Winter, and then show them your Lord’s Badge. That will settle the three Legendary-grade demons.”

A sinister smile curled on the Bald Head’s lips. Paired with his gleaming bald head, his words were hardly convincing. He sounded like a con artist.

“Are… are you sure…” Aryk’s eyelids twitched wildly. A million grass-mud horses were dancing and rapping in his heart.

“You have no choice,” the Bald Head said indifferently, crossing his legs.

“Alright!” Aryk gritted his teeth and nodded. “Then I’ll go try!”

With that, he patted the neck of the magnificent horse beneath him and shouted, “Charge!”

The warhorse, fearless, charged directly towards the army of orcs and demons!

This horse was redeemed from the System Store. Compared to the flashy rainbow ponies or other Magical Beast mounts many players had, Aryk’s horse was just a pure black Dragon Blood Horse. It was tall, but ordinary in every other aspect. Yet, Aryk loved its simple, unadorned appearance.

Though ordinary, the horse was valiant. In an instant, it had reached the front lines of the demon and orc forces, charging past the demon and orc allied army, all the way to the center of the battlefield.

The sudden appearance of one man and one horse in the battlefield stunned both armies. The fierce fighting paused for a moment.

Aryk surveyed the battlefield. The demons and orcs were filled with killing intent. He could even see the cold glint on the fangs in their mouths. The human garrison behind him had long since been scared out of their wits, like a group of quails cornered by a wild cat, trembling against the wall.

Was what the Bald Head said true? Aryk was still unsure. He wiped the sweat from his brow and, in front of everyone, produced his Lord’s Badge. Fortunately, the horse beneath him did not waver, standing tall alongside him. The killing intent from the armies pressed down on Aryk’s nerves. Even though he constantly reminded himself that he was a player, he couldn’t stop his legs from trembling.

Aryk took a deep breath, then another. The orcs and demons were growing impatient.

Suddenly, he stood up on the horse, holding the badge granted by the King of Winter, and roared at the two Legendary-grade demons in the sky:

“I am the Lord appointed by the King of Winter! The Kalun dynasty is no more, and I am here to take over Hades!”

His voice broke on this first shout due to his unstable emotions. However, it completely emboldened Aryk. Stabilizing his emotions, he shouted again in a steady, powerful voice:

“I am the Lord appointed by the King of Winter! I am here to take over Hades!”

After speaking, Aryk closed his eyes, gritting his teeth. He couldn’t help but think with a touch of sadness. Perhaps those demons and orcs were looking at him like an idiot. Oh well, he could always resurrect.

Just then, with a “boom,” Aryk felt the City Lord’s Badge in his hand tremble. He opened his eyes in astonishment.

He saw a golden glow spreading from the badge. The glow twisted and transformed in mid-air, quickly taking on the appearance of the King of Winter. He was still clad in black armor, the King of Conquest Long Sword held upright before his chest. His pair of cold eyes gazed coldly at the demons in the sky through his helmet.

“Scram—!”

Aryk felt a deafening roar pierce his brain like a sharp sword.

With two muffled thuds, the ground shook. He saw the two Legendary-grade demons that had been floating in the air fall and kneel on the ground.

“Please do not be angry, Your Excellency. We will leave now!” One of the Balrogs quickly declared, trembling with fear.

With that, the Naga beside it straightened and roared at the demon army. Despite their eyes filled with unwillingness and confusion, these demons dared not disobey the command. They gradually retreated, leaving behind a group of Orcs looking around in a daze, unsure of what to do.
