Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 760: Romantic Beach Club
Brida was a spell formation master in the Saint Lodia Empire.
For the past week, he had been working with his colleagues to help the King of Winter construct spell formations.
According to the King of Winter, each major town needed at least two teleportation formations, and each small town needed at least one.
This was, without a doubt, a massive undertaking.
If it weren’t for the shuttle, the time spent traveling alone would have taken years.
Brida was primarily responsible for the node connection and node differentiation of the teleportation formations in Winter City.
Node differentiation referred to how many cities a particular teleportation formation would connect to. These connections would be delineated like lines, and once spell formations were built in other cities, the nodes of the two cities would be connected, thus completing a teleportation circuit and activating the return nodes between them.
Differentiating nodes was a delicate process, and Brida had to expend a significant amount of mental energy every day.
Naturally, he was exhausted when he finished work.
This was the North Continent, a place without a Magic Net, where even mental energy recovery was slow. In the week he had been in the Wintery Empire, Brida, who was originally plump and cheerful, had already lost over ten pounds.
…
It was time to finish work again. Master Brida stood up from the core of the spell formation, nearly falling to the ground as he swayed.
Instantly, two knights rushed over to support him.
“Lord, please be careful!”
“Yes, Lord, why didn’t you call us when you finished your work? We couldn’t bear the responsibility if you were to hurt yourself!”
These two knights spoke one after another, their chatter making Brida’s head buzz.
He was too weak to scold them and could only let them help him walk outside.
The knights were assigned by the King of Winter. Each spell formation master was provided with two knights responsible for their daily needs, and all expenses incurred within Winter City were covered by these knights.
The spell formation masters had no special demands in their lives.
In the Saint Lodia Empire, they were like ascetic monks devoted to research.
Usually, they only needed enough food for three meals. Many spell formation masters were even unkempt, wearing tattered mage robes, their beards reaching their chests often tangled, with no time to groom themselves. Therefore, even though the King of Winter granted them the privilege of enjoyment, these spell formation masters remained engrossed in their work, their minds solely focused on it.
This caused Xi Wei a great deal of distress.
His goal was to keep these valuable spell formation masters in Winter City to contribute to the Wintery Empire in the future. However, one by one, these spell formation masters were workaholics, eager to finish building the spell formations and return to the Saint Lodia Empire as soon as possible.
Xi Wei was unwilling to give up and devised a rather insidious plan.
He decided to increase the workload of these spell formation masters.
He deliberately raised the requirements and extended their working hours, making them rush about every day. Then, he arranged for two knights to whisper in their ears.
Just like now.
After escorting Master Brida to the carriage, the two knights began their daily brainwashing session.
“Master Brida, are you feeling very tired, especially mentally?”
The knight on the left massaged Master Brida’s leg while flashing a flattering smile.
“Master Brida, if you’re mentally fatigued, why not visit the Romantic Beach Club in Winter City? A previous adventurer returned after battling monsters for three days and three nights, completely exhausted. But after visiting the Romantic Beach Club, he came out as energetic as ever! Shall we try it, Master?”
Brida leaned back in his seat, his eyes subtly closed and his brows furrowed.
This was not the first time the two knights had been promoting the “Romantic Beach Club” to him.
They spoke of it as if it were a top-tier medical clinic, but Brida didn’t believe a word of it!
How could a mere clinic solve the mental fatigue that even holy water and the Life Spring couldn’t remedy?
And a “Romantic Beach Club”…
What a vulgar name!
But he couldn’t stand the knights’ constant chatter; it was starting to annoy him.
“Are you sure this, what you call it, Romantic Beach Club, can relieve mental fatigue??”
Brida opened one eye amidst the knights’ droning, his gaze filled with impatience.
“Of course, Lord. We’ve been there ourselves, and it’s definitely a great place to relax. Otherwise, we wouldn’t recommend it to you!”
“Yes, Lord!” the other knight added. “Are you worried it won’t be effective for magic professions? No way! The Romantic Beach Club has the most mage guests!”
“Is it really that magical?”
Brida sat up and took a deep breath.
He felt a little better after resting, and his headache had subsided, but the feeling of mental emptiness still felt like a hand squeezing his brain, making him extremely uncomfortable.
“Lord, after so many days, you should believe us just once!”
The two knights blinked their large, watery eyes, which sparkled with sincerity.
Brida pondered for a moment.
He hadn’t ruled out the possibility of this being a ploy by the King of Winter, but what would be the point of the King doing this?
Targeting them, the spell formation masters, would be like shooting himself in the foot.
So, it couldn’t possibly be the King targeting him. It must be that the two knights genuinely cared about him. He decided to go and see.
“Let me be clear: if it doesn’t relieve my mental fatigue, you are never to suggest such boring things to me again!”
“Don’t worry, Lord! If it doesn’t work, we’ll never mention it again!”
Faced with Brida’s warning, the two knights were overjoyed.
This mission alone would earn them ten gold coins each, which was half a year’s military pay!
After agreeing, the carriage turned halfway and headed towards the Romantic Beach Club.
Upon arriving near the Romantic Beach Club, Brida alighted from the carriage and saw that quite a crowd had gathered at the entrance.
Most of them were mercenaries and adventurers, and indeed, there were many mages among them.
The greeter at the entrance was an elegant man in a tailcoat, but his strength was surprisingly high-level, reaching Tier 5.
This piqued Brida’s interest and expectations for the Romantic Beach Club.
After all, a place that could afford a Tier 5 warrior as a doorman must surely be very exclusive. Even if it couldn’t completely alleviate his mental fatigue, a little relief would be good.
With a sliver of anticipation, Brida, accompanied by the two knights, approached the entrance of the Romantic Beach Club.
As they got closer, he heard an argument. Two strong-looking mercenaries were blocking the entrance, their faces contorted with anger.
“Why? Becoming a member yesterday cost 200 gold coins, and today it’s 500? Are you guys trying to rob us blind?”
“Exactly! This is Winter City. Aren’t you afraid the King of Winter will hang you for robbing people like this?”
