Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 764: An Invitation from the North
At noon, Xi Wei received a letter.
He initially thought it was another territory facing problems and needing him to clean up their mess. Upon opening the letter, he discovered it was written in Elvish, but the signatory was not an Elf. It was from a Titan in the north, inviting Bai Yao to attend a divine position succession ceremony. He, as the King of Winter, was also invited to the Titan God Race’s Winter Solstice Festival.
Speaking of the Winter Solstice, Xi Wei turned to look out the window. Sometime while he wasn’t looking, Winter City had been enveloped in a snowstorm.
It seemed to have happened overnight.
Snowflakes – the heralds of winter – had quietly arrived.
To be honest, Xi Wei didn’t have a particularly good impression of divine position succession ceremonies, especially after what had recently happened with You Ye. However, recalling his experiences at Emerald Fortress, Xi Wei generally held a favorable view of the Titan God Race. Furthermore, the Thunder Titan back then had specifically asked him to look after Bai Yao.
There seemed to be no reason to hesitate.
If the maids were to ascend to godhood, let them. Once they all became gods, he could truly relax and prepare for future crises.
As his connection with Fario, the Emperor of the Saint Lodia Empire on the South Continent, deepened.
He also learned, through Fario’s intelligence network, that followers of the Old Ones were beginning to appear all over the South Continent, and a series of Old Ones’ Retainer contamination incidents had broken out.
The South Continent was able to detect this so quickly because of the Magic Net.
The Magic Net was like a surveillance system.
Any entity drawing magic power from the Magic Net was monitored by Fario.
If the South Continent was like this, Xi Wei saw no reason to believe the Old Ones would give up on invading the North Continent.
Perhaps many territories were already harboring Old Ones’ Retainers, waiting to cause trouble in secret, or quietly accumulating strength, and he simply didn’t know it yet.
“It seems I really have no choice but to go to the north…”
Xi Wei sighed, then snapped his fingers lightly.
“Your Majesty?”
A soldier poked his head through the doorway, awaiting Xi Wei’s command.
“Go fetch Bai Yao.”
“Yes.”
***
In the castle’s backyard.
Bai Yao and You Ye had just finished trimming the lawn and were now sitting on a rattan chair, chatting and exchanging experiences.
“You have no idea how dangerous it was the day before yesterday! If I hadn’t had the foresight to have Connie send me to Master, you might never have seen me again, sob sob… Actually, you would still have seen me, just a swapped-out version of me.”
You Ye patted her flat chest, putting on a frightened expression.
“Was the succession ceremony that dangerous?”
Bai Yao felt a pang of fear for her sister’s ordeal.
She nervously gripped the hem of her skirt, her thoughts turning to her own divine position succession ceremony. She asked with some worry:
“Do you think my divine position succession ceremony will also be dangerous?”
Currently, among the maids, only she, Nina, and Sakura had not yet inherited their divine positions. However, with the awakening of the gods, they, as vessels, had long felt a premonition. The inheritance of divine positions was only a matter of time. Nina was currently undergoing trials in the forging space.
It had been nearly a week, and there was still no sign of her.
She and You Ye had taken a peek during their free time.
At that time, Nina’s hands were raw and bloody, covered in blisters. The forging space itself was as hot as a steambath.
To maintain her skill and the texture of the materials.
Nina only had two hours of rest per day, which was broken down into four periods.
If it weren’t for Loli and Xi Wei watching over her and treating her condition when needed, Nina would have given up long ago.
The last time they visited, the little girl had been forging with a hammer while sobbing uncontrollably with a runny nose.
The scene was quite comical, but You Ye and Bai Yao couldn’t bring themselves to laugh.
“Don’t worry,” You Ye patted Bai Yao’s shoulder, comforting her good sister. “That was a very special situation. The Dark Night Goddess harbored strong hostility towards me. That wicked woman wanted to secretly take over my body. Even if she took it over, I’d be willing to dedicate myself to a righteous god, but she’s just a coward, a despicable and wicked villain!”
You Ye wrinkled her nose in disdain. “I would never acknowledge such a god!”
Bai Yao thought that even if it were a righteous god, she wouldn’t want to hand over her body. She still wanted to have a bunch of babies with Xi Wei!
“Oh, let’s not talk about such heavy topics.”
Seeing Bai Yao’s troubled expression, You Ye quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, do you know how Master found me? Master told me later, you’ll never guess!”
Bai Yao stared blankly at You Ye, her attention successfully diverted.
“How, how was it discovered?”
You Ye chuckled and leaned close to Bai Yao’s ear, lowering her voice mysteriously.
“Master said he felt something was wrong from the beginning because Connie’s was shallow, but mine was deep, hehehe…”
“Ah?” Bai Yao’s pretty face flushed, and she glared at You Ye reproachfully.
“You’re going to get me killed! Bringing that up, aren’t you ashamed??”
Ever since she got together with Master, this cat-eared girl had become increasingly unrestrained.
On the surface, she still maintained her emotionless demeanor, but in private, she was completely uninhibited.
She particularly enjoyed throwing out all sorts of lewd jokes in front of Bai Yao, often causing her to blush.
“What’s there to be ashamed of?”
You Ye placed her hands on her hips, looking smug.
“Oh right, I haven’t asked you yet, Bai Yao. Master’s… how much can you take?”
Bai Yao was filled with shame and anger upon hearing this. She raised her hand to hit You Ye, but You Ye had already completed her ascension ceremony the day before. The two, who were once evenly matched, were no longer on the same level. Bai Yao could only be spun around by the cat-eared girl’s cunning laughter.
“Miss Bai Yao, Lord has something he needs you for.”
A report from a guard sounded from outside the garden.
The morning garden was the maids’ recreational area, and castle guards were not allowed inside. They could only call out from the garden’s perimeter.
This rule hadn’t been established by Xi Wei, but by Clemon.
A long time ago, the diligent old butler had begun to worry about Xi Wei’s harem and the need for discretion.
“Master is looking for me?”
Bai Yao suddenly felt a pang of panic for no reason, a sense of foreboding.
Her premonitions were usually quite accurate. Something was probably about to happen.
“What should I do, You Ye? Is it my turn now?”
Bai Yao anxiously grabbed You Ye’s hand, her eyes instantly welling up with tears.
“What are you being silly about?”
You Ye pinched Bai Yao’s pretty face and pulled it to the sides.
“Do the math yourself, how long has it been since you were intimate with Master? I wish Master would find me every day! And you’re trying to run away? You even hid outside the city for three days?”
“I couldn’t help it…”
Bai Yao’s face was contorted into various strange shapes as You Ye messed with it. She grabbed You Ye’s hand, saying furiously:
“You haven’t experienced it, so how would you know? Do you know what I went through during that time? The sofa, the kitchen, the bathroom, the balcony, the bed… even in the sky! I had no rest time every day; even when I was asleep, it continued! Who could stand that? Could you stand it?”
The cat-eared girl puffed out her little chest and said proudly:
“I absolutely could!”
