Chapter 1082
Immortal Delicacies and Holy Communion
The wedding guests were all shocked by this event, without exception.
Nearly ninety-nine percent of them had never seen a fairy before.
Fairies—also known as nymphs in Avalon—are the personifications of natural phenomena such as mountains, rivers, springs, and forests. They are also a type of phantom demon and one of the paths to ascension for the Path of Love. Unlike witches, who have beast-like features and thus do not hide their desires, nymphs are usually more shy and rarely appear in front of crowds, only occasionally being seen when traveling alone.
In the distant Taichu Empire, they are called “Mountain Ghosts,” and ancient music is played specifically to appease them as offerings to the gods.
They were almost all unclothed, or wore only thin, transparent garments.
Some were tree nymphs, their bodies entwined with vines bearing clusters of red berries. Others were spring nymphs, their forms veiled by flowing springs, holding orbs of spring water in wooden or stone bowls. They danced elegantly, stirring up fragrant breezes.
The fairies laughed, offering red apples and spring water to the visiting guests. In the distance, other fairies danced, bathed, and sang amidst the dense forests, springs, and waterfalls.
The guests were overwhelmed with gratitude and accepted the spring water and fruits. After receiving these gifts, the nymphs giggled and transformed into leaves or clear water, disappearing.
Soon, everyone had water and fruit in their hands. Those who were more attractive—regardless of gender—received more fruit, and some nymphs even placed the spring water that formed their bodies or the berries from their forms into their bowls.
At first, the guests were a little nervous, hesitant to consume what the fairies had given them.
However, those who recognized the value of these gifts were stunned and could no longer maintain their composure—
For what the nymphs offered were not ordinary apples and spring water, but extremely rare ingredients. Those apples were called “Immortal Delicacies and Holy Communion,” or “Immortal Fruit,” and the spring water was “Nymph’s Spring,” also known as the “Fountain of Youth.”
These were delicacies meant only for the gods. They all shared a common effect: prolonging life.
Not the kind of life extension that “freezes death” like the Twilight Path, but a method that replenishes life force.
Eating one fruit could restore six to nine years of life force, and incidentally heal diseases and disabilities within the body. Drinking from the Fountain of Youth could extend lifespan by two years and restore a youthful appearance. It could turn the old into middle-aged, the middle-aged into the appearance of youth, and slow the aging process of the young.
These items could not be preserved through normal means. They would wither rapidly once separated from the nymphs’ hands, their efficacy steadily declining with each passing second. The Fountain of Youth, furthermore, could only be stored in the purest crystal bottles for a month.
Knowing that these items could not be taken away, they immediately began to devour them, completely disregarding their former dignity and reserve. They feared that even a few seconds of delay would result in several fewer days of extended life.
After consuming these gifts, they visibly became younger.
Their backs straightened, their skin regained its fairness and elasticity, their bellies shrank, their cheeks thinned, and even their appearances were restored to youth.
The other guests were in an uproar, realizing the miraculous power and immense generosity of this gift. Some struggled, wanting to take the items back to their families or sell them for wealth—but other kind souls stopped them, thereby preventing such a wasteful act.
Undoubtedly, the powerful figures who were not qualified to attend Eivass’s wedding but possessed both status and wealth would have offered exorbitant prices for these. To them, there was nothing more important in the world than youth and longevity.
Youth had passed, and years had flown by.
When a once-strong body was constrained by old age, when one could clearly sense the approach of death, when a former Extraordinary had his power diminished by the influence of the Twilight Path… when one lacked for nothing, yet found oneself without a youthful body to enjoy it all.
This was precisely why the Child of the Moon could so easily corrupt the upper echelons of various nations.
—There was nothing more important than regaining youth and achieving immortality. Even with the associated risks and controversies… they themselves were not unaware of the problems that came with becoming a Child of the Moon.
The Child of the Moon was not a new phenomenon, and there were many powerful individuals who knew that “the Child of the Moon and themselves were not fundamentally the same person.” Within their social circles, there were always a few good friends who knew and tried to dissuade them.
Yet, even under such circumstances, even knowing all the rational arguments, they could not control the desire to regain youth.
This was the most irresistible addiction in this world—the addiction to life. The better people lived, the less they could control themselves.
And now…
Not all of those invited to Eivass’s wedding were powerful figures. There were only a few influential people in Avalon, and even fewer attendees from other countries. They were mostly necromancers from the Spirit Tower like Albert Loret, or alchemists from Star Antinomy.
Although they were undoubtedly powerful in the eyes of ordinary people, they were still far from true rulers and the wealthy.
Yet, simply because they knew Eivass, or had even just chatted a few times with him when they were classmates, they received at least a decade of lifespan and twenty years of youth—something that the former Emperor Hrasal had sent multiple fleets to search for in vain!
Now, it had become “wedding candy” at the wedding…
In the face of this “relationship with the gods,” worldly wealth and power seemed so laughable. The longevity they desperately pursued was merely something Eivass could bestow as he pleased.
Some of the more intelligent guests realized even more profound implications:
Eivass’s ability to reverse aging would undoubtedly shake the foundations of the Child of the Moon.
Although many powerful figures knew that the Children of the Moon spread falsehoods, and the ritual to transform into one was akin to suicide; yet, watching their own bodies gradually age, while seeing former friends, colleagues, and rivals restore their youthful appearances, and then being constantly proselytized by these Children of the Moon… they would eventually break.
Not everyone could calmly face old age and death.
Those who had made grand pronouncements in their youth would eventually discover the burden of time.
And they had no choice.
Their only choice was to accept the olive branch offered by the Children of the Moon.
Even if it was poisoned, it was better to be poisoned to death than to fall from a cliff.
But now… they had another option.
—Eivass could grant them true youth and immortality without any negative consequences.
Although the price was unknown…
As soon as word of this wedding spread, the doom of the Children of the Moon was nigh.
This was precisely the gift Eivass had prepared…
As the guests were still in shock, another astonishing guest arrived—
A tall fairy, holding a silvery-white staff and with waist-length, silver-blue hair as if she had just bathed, walked slowly, surrounded by other fairies.
She had pointed elf-like ears and a stature like an elf, much taller than the other fairies. In her presence, the other fairies seemed like young girls, reaching only up to her chest.
She was currently wearing a semi-transparent white robe, clinging to her body as if wet from water. She playfully blinked her sapphire-like eyes and approached Eivass, who was riding a unicorn.
The unicorn had been able to walk on the ground since arriving in the Church, as it was somewhat fastidious and disliked stepping on unclean surfaces. When outside, its hooves were kept suspended above the ground unless absolutely necessary. However, in the Church, the earth was essentially the body of a giant tree, which was naturally clean, so there was no need for it to fly high in the sky.
“Madam Morgan.”
Eivass signaled the unicorn to stop and greeted the envoy of the Queen of the Shadow Realm. He then greeted Isabel and the unicorn, Pansy.
Morgan nodded with a smile.
She glanced at Isabel’s abdomen, a knowing smile appearing on her face, “It seems the gift I gave has been delivered… Don’t blame me, this was Lancelot’s gift. I was merely a messenger.”
“How could I blame you… I am grateful enough,” Isabel replied sincerely.
Their ascension had been too rapid. Without Morgan’s gift, it would have been difficult for Eivass to have a child even after ascending to the Fifth Tier. Once one ascended to the Fifth Tier, it was almost equivalent to sterilization—under the influence of the Balance of Power, the higher the energy level of a creature, the harder it was to have offspring, and the weaker they were, the more fertile they became.
This was also why humans, with their nine Path Traits, could become the dominant race in the new world.
Unlike elves, who easily leaned towards a few paths and awakened Extraordinary Abilities, humans, with their mixed thoughts, found it more difficult to become Extraordinary than other races—even trolls, who were simple-minded to the point of being somewhat dim-witted, had a much higher proportion of Extraordinary individuals than humans.
This was precisely because humans’ paths were mixed and their thoughts were chaotic, resulting in the lowest probability of spontaneously becoming Extraordinary… and thus, they became the most fertile. The races with stronger reproductive capabilities than humans lacked adaptability to the Path of Devotion, thus losing the possibility of uniting to form a civilization.
However, even humans could not escape the effects of the Balance of Power.
It was extremely, extremely difficult for someone at the Fifth Tier to have a child… not to mention that with the world’s ascension, Eivass was already heading straight for the Sixth Tier, or even the Seventh Tier. And Isabel could ascend to godhood with Eivass at any moment, leaving them little time.
—Fortunately, Morgan’s gift allowed Eivass to succeed on the first try.
“It’s a healthy and lovely girl…”
Morgan gazed at Isabel for a moment and then smiled, asking, “Would you like another boy?”
“If there’s enough time…”
Isabel lowered her head shyly, thought for a moment, and replied softly.
She did not know when Eivass intended to ascend to godhood, so her statement was not definitive.
She did not want to become a burden to Eivass while pregnant—if that were the case, she would prefer not to have another child.
“Alright, call me when you need me,” Morgan said with a smile. “Childbirth is one of my responsibilities, after all.”
Hearing this, Eivass realized, “Are you ascending?”
Although Apostles had their own responsibilities, they were essentially a joke. Their nature was akin to the job requirements of a laborer—they did indeed perform these tasks, but fundamentally represented the company behind them.
Those who truly had their own authority, and even had to be responsible for their authority… could only be Heavenly Envoys.
“The Heavenly Envoys of the Path of Love… won’t there be too many?”
Eivass asked with a frown.
Excluding the Banquet Heavenly Envoy, Shadow Heavenly Envoy, Envoy of Mist, and Blood Heavenly Envoy… if Morgan were to ascend now, there would be five Heavenly Envoys.
It was too many, regardless.
“Indeed,” Morgan said with a smile, “so I plan to switch to the Path of Authority.
“Although childbirth undoubtedly belongs to the authority of the Path of Love, if it is combined with the continuation of a race, it can also be connected to the Path of Devotion and the Path Adaptation. And if the authority of family is integrated, it can lead to the path of Authority.”
Hearing this, Eivass understood.
So Morgan had followed the Path of the Silver Crown Dragon!
He had long heard that Arthur and Morgan had a one-night stand, after which the Silver Crown Dragon had been avoiding Morgan. Now, after who knows what event, it had accepted Morgan back…
Morgan not pursuing Lancelot was a form of release for him.
“Congratulations, congratulations,” Eivass said with a smile. “Have you finally gotten on the right track?”
“Likewise,” Morgan nodded with a smile and took out a Golden Apple from her embrace. “This is my personal gift. Consider it a pre-arrival gift for the baby’s full moon celebration—I might not be able to come down then.”
“Golden Apple…”
Eivass murmured. “That is indeed a great gift.”
He cherished the apple and accepted it.
In essence, it was also a type of Immortal Fruit, merely the best one among them.
This item also existed in the game, where it was known as a “ding.” Because a sound of “ding” would emit when a character was promoted in a certain game, subsequent promotion items were all called “dings.”
Upon consuming a Golden Apple, one could directly advance their current Path to the latest version level. For example, if the original Level Cap was level 50, meaning Tier Five as the limit and Tier Six as the absolute limit, and after defeating the Fallen Heavenly Envoy, the Transcendent Path was upgraded to level 60, then consuming this Golden Apple would directly advance one to level 50, allowing them to play from the latest version.
Although it did not possess such divine power in reality… if given to a pregnant woman, it could directly alter an infant’s potential.
Allowing them to possess the potential to become a top-tier Extraordinary at birth!
