## Chapter 298: I’m Here to Burn Them
As the members of Noble Red gradually gathered, Eivass, hiding in the Priest’s house, narrowed his eyes.
“There are a bit too many people.”
He counted them roughly. There were at least thirty people wearing red robes, and they hadn’t even fully emerged from the forest yet.
After leaving the forest, these Red Robe Men had restored order without any apparent command.
They had only made a bit of noise out of excitement the moment they appeared, but they quickly quieted down and spontaneously formed ranks of casters, spaced over a meter apart. They immediately began performing rituals in rows, ensuring that any caster would have companions watching their surroundings at all times.
Just witnessing their sense of order made Eivass’s heart skip a beat.
“Could this be the Elite Troop of Noble Red?”
The group sent to attack the Inspection Bureau previously had already seemed very professional. But these people were clearly more elite.
Eivass did know that Noble Red had an internal regular army. But he didn’t know much about it, as Noble Red hadn’t been integrated into the system.
Prince of Giants, Wolfram, himself was not good at training people… The Giants were routed by the Knights precisely because they were accustomed to their own strength and lacked any formation or coordination, fighting entirely individually.
However, Noble Red had a deserter who was an air cavalryman. He had brought Noble Red a systematic training and command plan—Eivass had completed this side quest and had a slight impression of it. But he had skipped through the entire process, so he wasn’t clear on the specifics.
He vaguely recalled that this person was a student of the Grand Guardian and had defected out of jealousy or some perceived unfairness.
At the time, as a Player, Eivass hadn’t thought much of it. But now, he truly felt the pressure—
Demon Scholars trained on a military scale were incredibly troublesome, even if they were only Third Tier. After all, a Demon Scholar was essentially two units: a demon and a scholar… This meant these Demon Scholars could transform into a caster cluster with a large number of fearless, frontline meat shields at any time.
The only good news was that the Giant leading them was only a little over three meters tall.
This indicated either impure blood or a low level in the Path of Power. The latter suggested he held a low position in the Giant Kingdom… which meant he likely hadn’t mastered the special Mystical Arts of the Royal Family, nor did he possess Divine Blood.
Eivass remembered that Prince of Giants, Wolfram, was a Grand Wizard, an advancement Profession of the Cuju Mage. He truly had Divine Blood and was very difficult to deal with.
And as an organization led by Demon Scholars, Noble Red must have at least one high-ranking member who was a Demon Scholar.
“If nothing unexpected happens, it should be him.”
A pure-class Demon Scholar was better than a former high-level warrior who was also a high-level Demon Scholar. While Giants were tough, if they also had a high-level Melee Profession, Eivass honestly wouldn’t know how to deal with them.
Seeing Eivass frown deeply, Lily tugged lightly at his sleeve.
“Young Master,” Lily whispered, “How about I go assassinate him directly…”
Eivass turned his head sharply, looking at Lily in astonishment.
“How dare you?”
When did Lily become so aggressive?
“…He is very likely Fifth Tier,” he said, his teeth aching slightly. “You should be careful. The Shadow Demon might be able to help you kill him, but it might not be able to get you out…”
Lily hadn’t even completed her second Advancement Ritual for Path Adaptation to reach Third Tier. Even with the priority bonus of her equipment, it was impossible for her to assassinate a living Fifth Tier Extraordinary among a regular army and return safely.
Even with the Butterfly, he didn’t have the confidence to rescue Lily.
“But,” Lily frowned deeply, “if we don’t make a move first…”
Through the window, they could see those Demon Scholars setting up some kind of ritual.
They first summoned their destined demons to their side, then cautiously buffed themselves.
“Eivass recognized it. That was the Demon Frenzy Ritual.”
They first drove the demons into a frenzy, causing them to lose their minds, and then used the power of the contract to enslave them. This was a Mystical Art used to control demons stronger than oneself.
This made Eivass anxious—
What were these people here for? Were they also looking for the Book of Law?
He hoped Haina and Sherlock were hiding and wouldn’t come looking for him at this time.
Otherwise, with their strength, encountering these Demon Scholars would be troublesome…
But just then, someone in the Demon Scholar formation suddenly spotted Eivass.
Beneath his red robe, his eyes, still flickering with scarlet light, met Eivass’s.
Eivass’s heart jolted, and he subconsciously grabbed Lily and began to retreat rapidly.
Lily also seemed to sense something and started setting up layers of white threads in the room.
About two seconds later, a black lightning bolt, stretching and shrinking like a worm, suddenly shattered the glass and exploded violently within the house!
After hitting the ground, it shattered into countless scattered black electrical sparks. The corrosive aura of dark-attribute mana caused spiderweb-like purple cracks to appear on the floor and walls. Fortunately, the threads blocked part of it, otherwise, it would have splashed onto Eivass.
Eivass had just breathed a sigh of relief when another scorching fireball drilled in through the window.
It shone with a golden-white radiance and emanated intense heat. The moment it entered the room, it began to expand violently. By this time, it was too late for Eivass to try to summon the Butterfly.
Eivass subconsciously turned around, hugged Lily, and threw her to the ground, shouting, “Shadow Demon!”
The shadow beneath Lily suddenly expanded, and the Shadow Demon emerged from it, forming a semi-circular shadow shield behind them.
The fireball that entered the living room exploded violently, shattering the walls, floor, along with the living room table and cabinets!
The entire ground trembled and shook. Scorching flames began to spread in the room, and thick black smoke scorched the walls.
Eivass easily identified these two spells.
“It’s Corrupting Bone Thunder and Fireball!”
The former was an armor-piercing ritual spell capable of directly burning through metal armor and smashing through short walls and ramparts… Its ritual materials were an old man’s three vertebrae and a maiden’s bile.
The latter was a classic explosive spell.
Eivass was all too familiar with the power of Fireball, as Eivass’s “explosion-attribute” Flame Butterfly was equivalent to a Fireball.
However, Fireball was a Mage’s spell, and Demon Scholars typically lacked fire-attribute mana, so they couldn’t cast it. Therefore, this was likely the demon he contracted with launching a linked barrage at the target.
The Shadow Demon let out a muffled groan after taking a direct hit from the fireball.
It wasn’t a Phantom Demon skilled in defense in the first place. If it weren’t protecting Eivass and Lily, its usual method would be to hide in the shadows.
“…I’m going to kill them, Eivass!”
The Shadow Demon roared in a low voice, “It’s no use stopping me!”
The flames caused no damage to it, but the light emitted by the fireball’s explosion made the Shadow Demon clearly uncomfortable. It was probably equivalent to throwing a ball of excrement at a human’s face—not much damage, but extremely insulting.
Perhaps due to the influence of the Demon Frenzy Ritual being cast, the Shadow Demon’s aggressiveness had clearly increased.
“Ah, me too.”
Eivass narrowed his eyes slightly, a faint purple glow appearing. “I won’t stop you…”
He had only taken a brief glance from afar and had already been hit by spells twice… and there was even a follow-up attack. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, he might have been severely injured.
Eivass had initially considered evading.
After all, Fifth Tier individuals were not to be trifled with.
He himself wasn’t afraid… but if he angered them, it would be troublesome for Eagle Cape Village.
—But when these Noble Red Demon Scholars actively attacked him, Eivass suddenly realized their identity.
There was a reason they were treated like rats in Avalon. These Demon Scholars had a history of village massacres, and the “Big Purple” group had even massacred a village before arriving on Glass Island.
For these Demon Scholars, who had no taboos, humans were nothing more than walking ritual materials… They had made it a habit to slaughter defenseless villages to replenish their ritual materials. And now, with the backing of Fifth Tier Extraordinarys, they would have no reservations.
Eivass had lived on Glass Island for a long time. Until the attack on the Inspection Bureau, there had been no major disasters, and Noble Red had always kept a low profile on Glass Island. So, he hadn’t felt anything particularly strong about them and didn’t think they were that terrifying. He just thought they were a bunch of clowns.
But after this fireball came down, Eivass suddenly understood. They had never intended to leave survivors, and it had nothing to do with whether he provoked them or not.
Eivass finally truly grasped what the “village massacre” he had only read about in game texts and newspapers truly meant.
—These people were not clowns, but genuine demons.
“…Heh.”
Eivass’s pupils gradually ignited with crimson flames, the purple within them becoming more and more brilliant.
“A Fifth Tier Giant. Over forty Third Tier or higher regular soldiers… Quite a challenge.”
“They’re all just scum—”
The Shadow Demon’s voice boomed in his mind, filled with increasing rage and malice. “Kill them, Eivass! Charge over and kill them!”
“—Be quiet, Shadow Demon.”
Eivass’s voice was icy. “Don’t order me. I am your Master.”
Between his right thumb and index finger, as if performing magic, a pure red card appeared out of thin air.
A butterfly pattern was outlined on it with black lines. At this moment, the butterfly on the card had already begun to flap its wings impatiently.
“—Butterfly.”
Eivass called out her name in a low voice. “It’s time to kill.”
“As you wish, Brother.”
A clear, ethereal voice echoed from within Eivass’s heart. “I’m Here to Burn Them.”
Then, flames like a stream flowed from the center of the card—
