Chapter 80
The Elder Knows Best
When the unfortunate individual plummeted from above, two young priests in their late twenties immediately rushed forward to cast an Illuminate Spell in a rescue attempt. Unfortunately, it was all in vain.
Allen reacted with remarkable speed.
Upon realizing that the deceased might have been assassinated, he ordered everyone to stay clear of the priests attempting to rescue the falling victim and the body. He immediately dispatched personnel to seal off the stairs leading both up and down. Concurrently, he instructed the servers, who were stranded on the second floor due to the stair blockage, to promptly secure all windows on that level, preventing anyone from escaping amidst the chaos.
“Everyone, please remain calm and stay where you are. The Inspection Bureau will arrive within ten minutes.”
Allen’s deep and clear voice echoed throughout the entire building. A characteristic of the Path of Authority, his voice possessed the ability to project with considerable volume.
While his voice did not carry the coercive power of the Path of Authority to control minds, his composure and steadiness alone managed to suppress the slight surge of tension and confusion.
Following this, Allen picked up the telephone on the counter and began to dial.
However, he did not call the Inspection Bureau directly. Instead, he dialed his father. Allen briefly recounted the incident at the White Dance Shoe Club, asking his father to report it on his behalf. He specifically highlighted the fact that “Her Highness Princess Isabel was also present today.”
Eivass and the others had not yet had time to reach the second floor, so they were stopped on the first floor before the stairs were sealed.
He remained quietly by Allen’s side.
To Eivass’s surprise, he found himself with nothing particular to remind Allen of.
Having completely bypassed the narrative, Eivass was unaware that this half-elf senior with a long face was so capable. Faced with the unexpected situation, Allen did falter for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure.
Considering that Allen, as a half-elf, was only twenty-one years old, he certainly possessed talent in this regard.
With such innate talent, yet being so weak… it could only be said that his focus was not on Extraordinary Power.
However, Allen did have the backing to be willful.
He was not the eldest son, but the third. Furthermore, as a half-elf, his lifespan easily extended to one hundred and forty to fifty years. In Allen’s natural lifespan of over a hundred years, only about an eighth had passed. He still had ample time to grow and regret—should he survive.
The call made by the Minister of Law Enforcement evidently carried significant weight.
Allen had stated ten minutes, but in reality, just a little over five minutes passed before a large group of people pushed open the entrance and flooded in, eliciting murmurs of surprise.
They wore helmet-like dark hats and segmented black leather armor, with a handgun and a short sword holstered at their hips. The first wave alone numbered over twenty individuals, instantly making the first-floor hall crowded.
They moved through the crowd, forming a human wall to surround the scene. Following them were two inspectors wearing white gloves and black suits.
Immediately after, the heavy sound of marching boots echoed from outside the entrance.
An almost fully armored old knight, clad in silvery-white plate armor and with disheveled short hair that had turned grayish-white with age, entered from the open doorway. His helmet remained off. He possessed sharp, dark blue pupils. His sun-darkened, deep-colored skin bore visible scars, but these scars seemed to exude a faint silvery-white light.
To one’s surprise, the old knight carried a pure white greatsword on his back, emitting a soft, hazy glow.
It looked nothing like a modern weapon, nor anything that could be used as a devastating instrument within the city.
Upon entering, the old knight’s sharp, hawk-like gaze swept the room and located Princess Isabel.
“Greetings, Your Highness Princess Isabel.”
The old knight immediately knelt on one knee, his voice aged yet steady. “By the Silver Crown Dragon! I swear to protect your safety.”
Scattered among the inspectors and the investigation team were individuals who also knelt. Formality itself possessed mystery and power. This half-kneeling posture was an exclusive knightly gesture, symbolizing submission to the Royal Family’s authority and seeking power, strength, and protection from a higher being.
Only a Knight family could perform this bow to the Royal Family; others could at most offer a bow. The person performing the ritual could faintly perceive the emotions, intentions, and health status of the recipient through the power of the Path of Authority, and confirm if they were true direct descendants of the Royal Family.
Princess Isabel did not recognize him at all. She could only nod politely and tenderly to the old knight, responding softly, “Thank you… Please, rise, everyone.”
The old knight then rose and walked to Princess Isabel’s side. Only then did the inspectors begin their investigation of the deceased and collect the scattered documents from the floor.
At this moment, everyone in the club turned their gaze towards Princess Isabel.
Although Princess Isabel had been standing at the entrance for a long time, many had noticed her. However, she was not the first to arrive, and some had been engrossed in conversation, not noticing her at the entrance.
Princess Isabel possessed a quarter elven bloodline. Although she appeared young, her height was over 1.6 meters. Even if passersby saw the back view of a blonde girl, unless they could see her face clearly, most people would not immediately associate her with the Kingdom’s only remaining Princess.
After all, Princess Isabel had to wear a school uniform at school, and there were too many blonde girls at the Royal Law University.
Princess Isabel was currently wearing an outfit similar to the blue and white uniform Haina had worn when she first visited Moriarty Manor. This was not a uniform of the Inspection Bureau, but the school uniform of the Royal Law University.
The girls’ school uniform consisted of a white long-sleeved shirt and an outer dark blue vest skirt. The boys’ school uniform jacket was a dark blue suit. Only the tie color differed slightly between departments, but they all shared the Royal Law University emblem on the left chest.
Princess Isabel had never entered the White Dance Shoe Club before.
Precisely on her first day of arrival, a life was lost within the club.
It was important to note that since the founding of the White Dance Shoe Club over forty years ago, not a single life had ever been lost within its walls!
Even occasional brawls had not resulted in any disabilities, let alone such a blatant assassination!
The two priests’ attempt to use the Illuminate Spell at the first moment to save the victim indicated that this was undoubtedly a murder involving profound extraordinary powers!
Could this be a failed assassination attempt targeting the Princess? Or did her presence in the White Dance Shoe Club cause someone to misunderstand? Or was it simply a coincidence?
As most people were not very familiar with the deceased, hushed discussions arose among the crowd.
“I am the Director of the Inspection Bureau for the Red Queen District,” the old knight stated with a stern face. “Your Highness may call me Gordon. Chief Inspector Edward is also on his way. The First Air Cavalry Brigade has already surrounded the club building, and no one will be able to escape.”
—A single death, and the Director and Chief Inspector of the Inspection Bureau personally rushed to the scene.
This efficiency was impossible to achieve through normal police reporting procedures. It was entirely because Princess Isabel happened to be present.
It was also Allen’s quick thinking.
The moment he saw that dark gold, hiltless blade, he immediately recognized that it was beyond his capacity to handle and thus directly instructed the Minister of Law Enforcement to notify the Director of the Inspection Bureau for the Red Queen District himself.
If it were a dagger, it would be one thing. This thin blade without a hilt undoubtedly belonged to an exotic weapon.
While its specific usage was unknown, the wielder must have undergone specialized training.
In other words, a professional killer.
And yet, at their White Dance Shoe Club, entry was not permitted without the “Crystal Dance Shoe” badge.
This meant that in a venue frequented by the only Princess of Avalon, a professional killer had infiltrated a political society with strict entry requirements.
If Allen mishandled this matter, the entire club could be implicated. Everyone might be subjected to interrogation and secret investigations by the Inspection Department… and even his father could be implicated.
It was precisely because he considered this possibility that Allen directly called his father.
—The situation is as it is, Your Elder. You handle it as you see fit.
The effect was significant.
It was unknown whether the assassin was still inside or had already silently escaped. It was also unknown if it would be needed, but reinforcements were ample—people were continuously arriving at the White Dance Shoe Club.
Eivass even suspected that Director Kent of the White Queen District might have also received a notification and dispatched personnel. Perhaps Sherlock had also been notified… After all, he was Director Kent’s designated support, an externalized thought processor.
“Director!”
At this moment, an inspector approached with a tense expression. “The identity of the deceased has been verified!
“—It is Lord Raf, Chief Private Secretary to Master Droste!”
Hearing this, Lily, who had been standing quietly behind Eivass, suddenly widened her eyes.
