Chapter 14: You Are Not Fit to Be a Magical Girl
“Ahhhh!”
As Luo Shuangyue took down two magical girls in quick succession and tossed aside the burden that was Jiuye, the true forms of several black-clad men beside the old man on the other side of the battlefield were revealed.
As members of an evil organization, they were certainly not as simple as they appeared; beneath their black suits lay bodies as sturdy as steel.
“Oh, a transformed person? The technology is not quite mature; once they enter combat, they attack indiscriminately, with strength comparable to ordinary soldier-class magical beasts…”
Taking advantage of the distraction from Xia Mo and Siam, Luo Shuangyue quickly slipped into the shadows, concealing her presence and preparing to fish in troubled waters.
It would be best for her not to engage Xia Mo now; if she were to seriously harm her, it would be a serious problem.
The several transformed individuals on the other side were not particularly strong, and even if Xia Mo couldn’t exert much power at this moment, the remaining two magical girls should be able to handle them easily…
“I think I can transform into Bai Ye and sneak a peek from the sky, then deliberately let Xia Mo discover me, giving her a disappointed expression…” A plan quickly formed in Luo Shuangyue’s mind; she hadn’t forgotten her objective.
Using the Dark Butterflies to take down Xia Mo, then psychologically striking her with Bai Ye, and finally appearing in person to gently persuade Xia Mo to give up the path of the magical girl—perfect!
“It shouldn’t be a problem to maintain the transformation for four to five minutes without using any powers while simply standing. Hmm, that should be enough for them to deal with this.”
“Then…”
“Senior Bai Ye, lend me your light power!”
…
“Reflect on the mistakes you have made! Pure Light!”
At the shout of the girl, several transformed individuals were struck by a magic cannon, collapsing to the ground, charred and unaware of their fate.
The thin old man had long been held by Siam at neck point with her magic wand.
Members of the Magic Department, dressed in black combat uniforms, swiftly arrived on the scene after the battle, shackling the captured individuals one by one and carrying them away.
Just when everyone thought this operation was about to end, a member of the Magic Department looked up at the hole in the ceiling.
Then, “Is there someone up there?!”
Everyone immediately turned their gaze to the sky, where a girl in a white dress with white hair appeared by the hole that had just been blasted open by Linglan, looking down at everyone in the abandoned factory.
The girl stood on air, her four long white ponytails drifted behind her like wings. Her aura was so extraordinary that one could instantly tell her remarkable identity.
Before anyone could react, Xia Mo, who had been in a passive state during the latter half of the battle, suddenly raised her hand, stopping everyone’s further actions. “Don’t be impulsive; it’s our senior. I’ll go ask her why she is here.”
Luo Shuangxing looked at Xia Mo with worry; she felt her senior’s voice tremble slightly, as if…she was scared?
And…a senior?
She gazed up at the white figure in the sky, and for some reason, her eyes began to sting.
Unable to resist rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand, Luo Shuangxing looked at the faint watermarks on her skin, feeling somewhat conflicted.
The white figure up in the sky reminded her of her missing mother…
“Senior, I’ll go with you.” Siam’s cat ears twitched slightly; she was uneasy about letting Xia Mo face this unknown magical girl alone.
But Xia Mo refused Siam’s request, shaking her head. “This is ‘Senior Bai Ye’; there’s no point in having you come with me.”
“Bai Ye? Is that the one…?”
“Yes, that’s the one.” Xia Mo nodded, then lightly kicked off and flew towards the sky.
The closer she got to Bai Ye, the more anxious Xia Mo felt; she didn’t know when Bai Ye had arrived, but her intuition told her that Bai Ye had not simply come to see the result after the battle had ended.
Recalling how Bai Ye had saved her after she was defeated by the Dark Butterflies last time, Xia Mo began to doubt that Bai Ye had appeared right after she was flung away by the Dark Butterflies.
Her poor performance had probably been entirely seen by Senior Bai Ye.
Flying up to the height level with Bai Ye, Xia Mo observed the white-haired girl and realized that Bai Ye’s figure was not particularly tall.
Without those high-heeled shoes, she would be about the same height as Linglan, just slightly shorter than Xia Mo.
Apart from those four striking long ponytails, Bai Ye’s other distinguishing feature was her radiant golden eyes, which seemed as brilliant and dazzling as the sun, making Xia Mo hesitant to meet her gaze.
Moreover, Bai Ye’s magical girl outfit had a mature style, which gave her a somewhat mature senior presence, even though her physique and appearance leaned towards the cute side.
“Senior Bai Ye…”
“…This is the second time.”
The golden gaze of the white magical girl settled on Xia Mo, her gentle yet clear voice echoed in Xia Mo’s ears.
She understood what she meant.
If she were defeated by the Dark Butterflies again, Bai Ye would appear once more, saving her from their clutches.
And based on the previous battle, if the Dark Butterflies hadn’t been in a hurry to leave, all three magical girls present would likely have been defeated by them… This operation would face an incredibly tragic end.
The root of the problem was still that as the team leader, the magical girl Rosemary’s abilities were too weak.
Lowering her head, Xia Mo bit her lip and whispered, “I’m sorry for disappointing you, Senior!”
Losing is losing; there are no excuses to be found.
What she could do was learn from the experience of failure and win back both her pride and the stakes next time!
“Yes, you disappointed me greatly.” Bai Ye averted her gaze, letting out a soft sigh; within that sigh was a hint of disappointment, as if she had once held great expectations for Xia Mo, only to have those hopes dashed by her performance.
Hearing Bai Ye’s words, Xia Mo’s mind exploded; could it be that Senior Bai Ye had always been watching her secretly?
“Senior, you…”
“I have been paying attention to you, but your performance does not satisfy me.” Bai Ye nodded and continued with her piercing words.
“Magical girls do not have the opportunity to fail; you are fighting with your lives, while someone like you is merely courting death.”
“You are not fit to be a magical girl; giving up is the best choice.”
Bai Ye’s voice carried a trace of indifference, each of her words felt like a sharp knife deeply piercing Xia Mo’s heart.
Could it be… that I truly am not fit to be a magical girl? At that moment, even she couldn’t help but begin to doubt herself.
