Chapter 18: Bad-hearted People
The white wig was thrown onto the bed, and the black long skirt was scattered on the floor. Luo Shuangyue hugged her slightly reddened toes, her expression a bit grim.
How embarrassing!
The plan had been so perfect, how could there be a problem at the very end?
The mysterious and elegant image of Dark Butterfly that she had so painstakingly created was now shattered!
A villain tripping over the windowsill while trying to escape and screaming as they flew out the window is just not intimidating at all!
Knock, knock, knock…
Footsteps sounded outside the door again. Luo Shuangyue hurriedly buttoned her nightgown, shoved the wig, skirt, and socks into her blanket, and then crawled under the covers, pretending to be sound asleep.
About half a minute later, she heard her door gently open. A few seconds later, the door closed.
As the footsteps gradually faded away, Luo Shuangyue cracked open her eyes a tiny bit and, confirming that no one was looking at her, let out a quiet sigh of relief.
She couldn’t sleep yet; she needed to tidy up the clothes she had just worn.
Sigh, what a hassle…
…
“Strange, is it just my imagination?” Back in her own room, Luo Shuangxing sat on the edge of her bed, stroking her chin in thought.
She had clearly heard voices chatting in Xia Mo’s room, and she had definitely heard faint noises coming from her brother’s room, yet Xia Mo insisted that nothing had happened, and her brother was sleeping soundly.
This can’t be a ghost story, right?
Moreover, the excuse Xia Mo came up with… this is the fourth floor; how could a cat come and crash into the window?
It must be an excuse!
“Xia Mo is hiding something from me…” The clever little brain began to work, and Luo Shuangxing keenly sensed that something was off.
If her brother wearing women’s clothing could be understood, then Xia Mo speaking with someone in the middle of the night was completely unexplainable by common sense.
Indeed, Xia Mo could be talking to a friend via voice call, but from what Luo Shuangxing knew of Xia Mo, she would never blast a voice call at night.
Eliminating that seemingly normal possibility, the other options became increasingly eerie.
Surely, no one broke into Xia Mo’s room to chat with her in the middle of the night, right?
How perverted must someone be to invade a girl’s room at night!
Luo Shuangxing felt that this matter needed to be reported to her older brother, lest someone steal a march on him without his knowledge.
The next morning, when Luo Shuangxing pulled Luo Shuangyue into her room and sneakily told her about this incident, Luo Shuangyue’s expression held a kind of abstract beauty.
Her emotions were a mix of feelings—there was gratitude, relief, and a bit of helplessness.
Her little sister cared for her brother’s happiness, showing that raising her wasn’t in vain, but the possible “cheating cat” she mentioned is actually me!
I was merely meeting her in a different guise, and if it weren’t for you meddling, I would have won her over last night!
“Don’t think too much; it was probably just a misunderstanding.” Luo Shuangyue reached out to ruffle her sister’s hair and whispered, “So, what do you want to eat tonight? I’ll go buy it for you.”
Luo Shuangxing instantly shot her brother a look of ‘I knew you were this kind of person,’ the first part of his sentence trying to appear righteous, and the second part dropping the act.
“Cake~”
“Alright!”
As the siblings finished their affectionate exchange and walked out of the room, Xia Mo, sporting dark circles under her eyes, was munching on the breakfast prepared by Luo Shuangyue like a wooden person.
Although Dark Butterfly’s comical exit had slightly shattered Xia Mo’s image of them, the words of Dark Butterfly still lingered like dark clouds in her heart, pricking at her like a small knife.
Should I listen to Dark Butterfly and stop being a Magical Girl?
If I continue to be a Magical Girl, will Shuangyue and Shuangxing be put in danger by Dark Butterfly…?
Watching the pair of siblings who were eagerly bonding, Xia Mo bit her lip, her heart filled with turmoil.
‘My power is too weak; I can’t even protect them well…’
She became a Magical Girl to protect everyone, but now she couldn’t even protect those close to her, instead putting them in danger.
Does this self really have the right to continue acting as a Magical Girl?
Is giving up really the best choice for everyone?
While Xia Mo was lost in sorrow, Luo Shuangyue started intense eye communication with her sister.
‘Brother, it’s your turn, go comfort Xia Mo!’
Luo Shuangxing bit her spoon, shooting daggers at Luo Shuangyue with her eyes.
Luo Shuangyue lowered her head and munched on bread, refusing to say a word.
What should she say? To comfort Xia Mo and help her regain her confidence?
What a joke; Luo Shuangyue would rather see Xia Mo’s faith collapse and her dream die. At this point, she should just watch Xia Mo dig herself deeper into her own quandary.
The power of a Magical Girl comes from unwavering belief; when their belief wavers, their power weakens as well.
If faith collapses, they would lose the ability to transform into a Magical Girl, and that’s exactly the outcome Luo Shuangyue desired.
‘Kids shouldn’t think so much,’ Luo Shuangyue replied with her gaze.
‘You won’t comfort your crush? Do you really want to get sidelined?’ Luo Shuangxing shot her a piercing look.
There’s no official status between Xia Mo and Luo Shuangyue; if someone suddenly showed up and stole her heart, Luo Shuangyue would have nowhere to cry.
‘If you don’t use your childhood sweetheart advantage now, then when will you?’
Receiving her sister’s message, Luo Shuangyue couldn’t help but be taken aback; oh no, she actually felt her sister had a point.
If someone really took advantage of the situation and snatched away the fruits of her hard work, she would really want to kill.
“Mo Mo, do you have time later?” Luo Shuangyue cleared her throat and asked Xia Mo.
Xia Mo fell silent for a few seconds before slowly nodding.
It was August now, and having just completed the college entrance exams, she effectively had free time every day.
As for what Luo Shuangyue wanted to do, Xia Mo felt she could guess some of it.
Since childhood, Luo Shuangyue had been a very considerate and empathetic person. Whenever Xia Mo was feeling down, Luo Shuangyue would always be the first to appear, offering companionship and comfort in her own way.
This time, it must also be her unusual state that caught Luo Shuangyue’s attention, right?
“Then let’s go to the nearby Yaoxing Garden for a stroll; I remember you really like the starlit blue flowers there,” Luo Shuangyue said with a smile to Xia Mo.
Hmph, taking this opportunity to increase my standing in Xia Mo’s heart, that way I won’t have to worry about being sidelined by some blonde hair!
Sigh~ I’m such a bad woman, Luo Shuangyue thought to herself.
