Chapter 5: The Whole Family are Talents
Nightfall, as the name suggests.
In the pitch-black space, only a few twinkling stars serve as decoration. It is an abyss unreachable by light, a carnival for dark forces, a breeding ground for countless conspiracies.
Luo Shuangyue skillfully traversed the dark hallway, stepping on the stars as she walked into the heavy night sky.
In the next moment, a large door opened as if it had been waiting for her arrival.
“Six fifty-nine, you’re half a minute late.”
A lazy and youthful voice came from behind the door. Luo Shuangyue maintained her expression and confidently stepped into the room.
In the dark room, there were only a few hanging orbs from the ceiling serving as a light source, making it so dim that one could barely make out outlines of figures.
To be honest, Luo Shuangyue didn’t like this place at all.
“Last time I arrived half an hour early, only to be kept outside, so I decided not to come early again,” Luo Shuangyue said as she walked to the dining table in the center of the room, glancing at the several dishes on the table.
And at the table was a blonde girl leisurely cutting her steak with a knife and fork.
The girl was dressed in a light brown fitted long dress, draped with a slightly darker plaid shawl over her shoulders. Every movement emitted an air of old-fashioned Western aristocratic elegance.
“Good evening, Monise,” Luo Shuangyue said, pulling out a chair opposite the girl and sitting down without hesitation.
“Call me BOSS, or just call me senior,” Monise said, somewhat unsatisfied, tapping her plate with her knife. “I heard from Jiuye that there were unexpected developments in yesterday’s operation?”
So it’s about yesterday’s incident? Luo Shuangyue thought to herself, feeling relieved that she had already prepared for it.
Calmly nodding, Luo Shuangyue took out a card wrapped in white light from her pocket.
“A few small unexpected events, but the card is now in hand.”
From the very beginning, Luo Shuangyue and the Polar Night’s target wasn’t the magical girl, but this card.
Rosemary was rescued by an unknown powerful magical girl; it just made the plan less perfect, but as long as they had the sealing card, the mission wouldn’t be considered a failure.
“Indeed, this is the Confined Demon King sealed by Bai Ye. With this sealing card, my research can progress further…” Receiving the card handed over by Luo Shuangyue, Monise brought it close to her nose and sniffed it lightly.
A blush spread across her cheeks, and she rubbed her face against the card like a kitten that smelled catnip.
“Ahem!” Luo Shuangyue quickly cleared her throat.
Boss, please pay attention to your image. Don’t show such suggestive expressions everywhere, okay?
You’re going to make me think you’re a pervert who wants to be my dad.
“Don’t be so surprised, this is a sealing card left by Bai Ye.” Monise shook her head and tucked the card away in her pocket. “Once I separate the magical energy from Bai Ye’s power, I’ll give you your portion.”
Though nominally Monise’s subordinate, Luo Shuangyue was more like a partner. She helped Monise get the sealing card, and in return, Monise would help her separate the magical energy from the card and Bai Ye’s power.
Then Monise would take the magical energy, and Luo Shuangyue would take her mother’s power, which was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Afterward, the leader of the Polar Night brought up another matter.
“You should have seen what that magical girl looked like, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Describe her appearance to me, and I’ll send someone to dig out her identity.”
As expected of the big boss of an evil organization, just a few words and she decided to expose the defeated magical girl.
Luo Shuangyue certainly couldn’t let Monise have her way. Once Monise learned that Rosemary was Xia Mo, she, as Xia Mo’s childhood sweetheart, would inevitably encounter trouble.
Targeting the friends and family of magical girls was a consistent tactic of evil organizations.
“No need, I have some leads. Monise, you should focus your energy on more important things.” Luo Shuangyue shook her head calmly, refusing Monise’s request.
The blonde girl raised her eyes to scrutinize Luo Shuangyue, noticing her calm and disdainful expression, and didn’t seem suspicious that Luo Shuangyue wanted to protect Rosemary.
She probably thought that Rosemary was not a threat, and being rescued was nothing uncommon.
“Compared to Rosemary, I’m more curious about the magical girl who rescued her. To scare Jiuye like that… Could she be a Blooming Level?”
To prevent Monise from continuing to focus on Rosemary, Luo Shuangyue threw out another obviously more pressing question.
What’s there to worry about with the defeated magical girl? What we should be concerned about is that suddenly appearing powerful magical girl!
Monise popped a piece of meat into her mouth and chewed slowly.
After a long time, she swallowed her food and voiced her thoughts: “There aren’t any Blooming Level magical girls stationed in Star Sea, and based on Jiuye’s description… I suspect it’s Bai Ye.”
“Bai Ye?!” Luo Shuangyue displayed a genuinely surprised expression.
“I once had a brief friendship with her. Although we parted ways due to differing ideologies, I must admit, she is a noble and powerful magical girl, completely different from those other worthless ones.”
Monise wore a nostalgic expression as if reminiscing about the glorious past.
Luo Shuangyue sat up straight and listened. The reason she joined the Polar Night was that she had learned from her parents’ notebook about the connection between the leader of the Polar Night and her parents, believing she could obtain clues about her parents’ disappearance from the Polar Night.
However, after two years, she had hardly heard Monise mention her parents.
This made Monise’s reaction this time particularly noteworthy.
“So… should we ignore this matter?”
“Why ignore it? I want to see my old friend again and ask her where she has been all these years. Is she busy having children with her little lover?” The corner of Monise’s mouth tilted up, revealing a terrifying smile that sent chills down Luo Shuangyue’s spine.
“Daring to take away my deputy, she really has some guts.”
Luo Shuangyue couldn’t help but shiver. Her instincts told her that Monise was very dangerous now.
“Dark Butterfly, aren’t you interested in Bai Ye’s power? Now is your chance, go find her!”
“Boss… but she’s a Blooming Level. I can just sneak a bit of her magical energy; I can’t fight her head-on,” Luo Shuangyue reminded Monise of her lack of strength.
Dark Butterfly’s power could battle against seasoned Initial Bloom Magical Girls without falling behind, but when facing a Blooming Level magical girl who had already surpassed the strength of ordinary magical girls, her performance wouldn’t be much better than Jiuye’s.
“That’s your problem. Actually, given her personality, if you approach her for help, she will likely agree to assist you.”
