“Are you one of Dolf Ein’s elite?”
Rosa Roen landed before Jared and the others, Pfeil remaining on the building above, bow drawn.
Luzer thrust his greatsword into the ground and spread his arms wide in welcome.
“It’s nice to meet you, surviving heirs of Waalthe. The other three heirs are with me. Well, one of them was just defeated by Jared.”
“That’s expected. I don’t believe a man like Flames could defeat Jared Murphy. He’s the one who defeated Pfeil, after all.”
“Indeed. Dolf wanted Pfeil, the most sought-after heir, the most. But Pfeil was Wahash’s favorite, and the drawbacks of trying to poach him made him difficult to approach. There was a plan to have him manipulated when he was defeated by Jared, but amusingly, he ended up living in the home of the person who failed to assassinate him. He was frustrated that everything was beyond his expectations.”
“Tell him, ‘serves you right.’ Dolf Ein, who served his father for generations, half-privatized the organization, and ultimately betrayed it, will surely be killed.”
“Do as you please. If you can kill him.”
Rosa threw a knife at Luzer, who smiled provocatively. However, before the knife could reach Luzer, Jared knocked it down.
“What are you doing, Jared Murphy!”
“That’s what I should ask you! All of you just show up and do whatever you want! Explain things so I can understand!”
First Luzer, who had been missing, reappeared and was treated as a traitor, but his words couldn’t reach them. Just as he was trying to come to terms with it, Pfeil and Rosa appeared, clearly hostile. Jared, who knew nothing of the situation, was more irritated than confused.
“Jared Murphy, I will explain everything later. Please, be quiet for now.”
“Why would I agree to that just because you told me to? You can’t possibly have forgotten about kidnapping Yeny?”
“That was a mission then. This is different now. If you wish, I can kneel before her and bow my head. So please, for now.”
“No. Luzer, whom you attacked, is my benefactor and like an older brother. I can’t let you hurt him.”
“I’m happy to have such a good younger brother. Now, while Jared is protecting me, let’s talk, Rosa Roen.”
“You seem to know me, but I don’t know you. You serve Dolf Ein, but you are not a member of Waalthe, are you?”
Luzer nodded at Rosa’s question and stepped in front of Jared. Rosa’s clear animosity was evident, but she understood that attacking him might make Jared an enemy, so she made no move to strike. Luzer, realizing this, approached her without hesitation.
“I don’t want to be compared to Waalthe assassins. Ah, you were fighters. My apologies. I am Luzer, Luzer Fischer. I am the older brother figure to this confused Jared. And I serve Dolf Ein to kill Jared.”
Jared, and even Rosa, were stunned by his words. They seemed unable to comprehend Luzer, who, while claiming to be an older brother figure, could calmly speak of killing.
“As you know, I will introduce myself. My name is Rosa Roen. I am the daughter of Wahash, the leader of Waalthe.”
“I know well. I have investigated you quite thoroughly. I’ve also investigated Pfeil up on the building, who looks eager to shoot arrows from above. With that in mind, this is my first and last offer—join us.”
“I refuse!”
“I expected you to say that. So, what about you, Pfeil?”
Rosa answered immediately, then turned to Pfeil on the building. Instead of a reply, an arrow flew. Luzer easily caught it and asked Rosa, “Does this mean ‘no’?” but received only a glare in return.
“Honestly, all the heirs of Waalthe are so uninteresting.”
“Luzer Fischer, answer me. Are you truly going to defy Waalthe, or rather, Wahash?”
“Waalthe and Wahash mean nothing to me. Dolf intends to do so. He wants to take over the organization, and he wants to destroy the organization he secretly created out of spite after Wahash expelled him.”
“That sounds like him. If it weren’t for him, Waalthe wouldn’t have become an assassination organization in the first place.”
“You should say that to Wahash. I hear he entrusted the organization’s operations to Dolf and Dolf’s father and grandfather. Leaving it all to them, is Dolf solely to blame?”
“We are proud warriors!”
“Ridiculous… What pride can a killer have?”
Luzer’s angry shout drowned out Rosa’s voice. Jared, who had been watching the proceedings, finally began to understand the flow of conversation.
“Tell me, Luzer, why are you targeting me?”
“Flames attacked you because you defeated Pfeil. He seems to have viewed Pfeil, who was also an heir, as a rival, and thought that by defeating you, he could prove he was superior.”
“No! I mean why are *you* targeting me! When did I betray you?”
“It’s fine if you don’t recall. Eventually, you will realize your sins. But rest assured. I will only take revenge on you. I have no intention of harming anyone else. So, please die without hesitation.”
Jared, who truly had no recollection of his older brother figure’s words, was speechless. He considered the possibility that he had unknowingly done something to Luzer, but nothing came to mind.
“Listen, Luzer. There’s something I need to tell you—”
“Not now. It’s too soon to hear your confession. When I reappear before you again—we will fight to our heart’s content. That is my revenge.”
With that, he turned his back on Jared, who still wanted to speak, and picked up the fallen Flames.
“See you, Jared. Stay alive until I kill you.”
Luzer kicked off the ground and leaped with surprising agility, carrying a person and a greatsword, moving towards the building. The white-clad girl, who hadn’t moved at all, started to follow but then approached Jared as if remembering something.
“Jared Murphy… No matter how much you strain your voice, Luzer cannot hear you now.”
With that, she bowed her head slightly and leaped after them.
“Wait! What do you mean by that!”
“You will understand eventually.”
Saying only that, the girl disappeared with Luzer. Left behind, Jared’s magic power surged in anger, and he punched the ground. The ground shattered with a thunderous roar, but it did little to quell his frustration.
“What in the hell is going on, damn it!”
As Jared screamed with all his might, sadness, more than irritation, filled his heart.
