“First the offer to become a Court Mage, and now this… the King of this country seems like quite an interesting human.”
“It would appear so. Of course, this is all being handled discreetly, but considering the future, you might want to accept.”
“Wahash, what are your intentions for this organization?”
“Those who wish to can serve this country. If any remain with the organization, they can become mercenaries under contract with this country.”
Pfeil couldn’t grasp Wahash’s true intentions, and though she didn’t show it on her face, she was bewildered. However, Pfeil’s answer was already decided.
“If that is your desire, I will obey.”
“No. I want you to become a Court Mage.”
“…Why?”
“I heard from Rosa. You have a woman you love. You have served me well since you were young. It’s about time you lived for yourself.”
“I am greatly indebted to you.”
“If you are grateful for saving you and your younger sibling—”
“No, that’s not it. You knew my older sister was alive but let her go. I must repay this debt with my life.”
“You knew.”
Pfeil’s older sister had supposedly died on a mission when Pfeil was still young.
She was thought to be dead. But she wasn’t. Pfeil learned this after fighting Jared.
Perhaps it was because she almost died, but she lost her memory and lived on with a new name.
Though she faced hardships, it was a far better life than being an assassin. Surrounded by people akin to a sister and mother, she had found a small happiness.
Her sister’s current name was Trane Glasler.
She had the same blue hair as Pfeil and was a maid who served Olivier, a member of her family.
“I never imagined. I never dreamed that the Olivier Alway I tried to kill would actually become her family. Though I realized it after my defeat by Jared.”
“You must have been greatly relieved.”
“…To be honest, I am grateful that I lost to Jared that day, in that battle. If I had won, I would have killed Olivier, and Trane, without realizing she was my sister.”
If she had done something like that, regret would be the least of her worries.
Living together at Olivier’s mansion, she often helped Trane with things, and small gestures and movements reminded her of her sister.
Olivier and Hannelore had also pointed out their similar appearances.
Because they spent so much time together, she quickly recognized her sister. She had the urge to confess she was her younger brother, but she didn’t want to interfere with her sister’s new life, especially after losing her memories.
She knew immediately that it was a better life than being an assassin, especially with those who were targeted, including themselves from Waalthe, due to the consorts.
Olivier loved Trane as if she were her own younger sister, and Hannelore loved her as if she were her child. In that case, it was better for her sister not to have a younger brother she didn’t even remember.
And so, Pfeil decided to cherish her sister from afar.
The recent incident where Olivier was kidnapped was partly out of gratitude for Trane’s care and partly for Jared. Ernesta being abducted was also a reason. But she also wanted to prevent her sister from grieving.
“It’s good to be by your sister’s side. You have the right to do so.”
“However.”
“I promise I won’t do anything to your sister. Considering how you’ve served me until now, it’s only natural.”
“…Wahash.”
“My successor, Pfeil, choose the path you must take so you won’t have regrets.”
Wahash said only that and turned his back to Pfeil, walking away.
Pfeil, who had been gazing at his back, bowed her head in silence.
