“Oh, my apologies. But this is important, so please listen carefully. Regarding the Progenitor’s power, there were priestesses who once served the Progenitor. Think of them as disciples or assistants, if you will. However, even they did not agree with the Progenitor’s resurrection.”
To have even disciples oppose the resurrection, one could not help but wonder how estranged the Progenitor must have been.
“Unaware of such sentiments, the Progenitor bestowed their power upon the priestesses. They feared losing their power after death, you see. They temporarily housed their power within the priestesses, intending to reclaim it later.”
“But neither the power returned, nor did the Progenitor revive, is that it?”
“Precisely. So, what became of that power?”
Jared and the others’ gazes turned toward Yeny, who still wore a worried expression.
“…No way, you can’t be serious.”
“Not all of it, but the Progenitor’s power has been inherited by you, Yeny.”
Everyone was speechless.
The more Jared heard about the Progenitor from Haru, the more troublesome and entangled he found the matter to be. No one willingly wants to get involved in trouble.
However, he was now informed that they were already involved. Not only was Lucas Gallagher, a past enemy who had tormented Jared, a factor, but his younger sister had also inherited the Progenitor’s bloodline.
“Haru, is it true that the Progenitor’s power resides within Yeny?”
Olivier’s questioning, seeking confirmation, was met with a nod from Haru.
“…What?”
“However, it’s not that you inherited the Progenitor’s power in its entirety. The power was dispersed and divided among multiple priestesses. After that, the priestesses devised a spell.”
“What kind of spell?”
“It was a spell designed to weaken the Progenitor’s power with each generation, and eventually eliminate it. Honestly, I didn’t expect the Progenitor’s power to remain in the modern era. You and the Progenitor’s power were a good match, Yeny. You’ve been using the Progenitor’s power subconsciously. That is the truth of your talent.”
“My power… I see, but it makes sense. I haven’t made any real effort, yet I possess amazing power. I attributed it to talent, but was that it?”
While she seemed shocked to have inherited the Progenitor’s power, Jared perceived a sense of relief in Yeny. It was mere speculation, but perhaps she had felt uneasy about possessing overwhelming power despite having received minimal training, especially when her grandfather had forbidden her from wielding a sword due to her talent.
Her ability to repel Rosa Roen, who had pushed Jared to his limits as a fighter, with just a sword had raised questions beyond mere talent. Jared couldn’t determine whether finding the answer was a good or bad thing. Still, he wanted to support his sister as much as possible.
“Olivier and Emilia, who have inherited the Progenitor’s bloodline. Yeny, who has inherited the Progenitor’s power. Although their blood and power have thinned with each generation, we cannot afford to be complacent, especially considering they share the same gender as the Progenitor.”
“Haru, if you’re in charge, is there anything to worry about?”
“I won’t make irresponsible promises. Currently, there are few women qualified to be vessels for the Progenitor. I will do everything in my power, and despite making you anxious, there’s not too much to worry about.”
Haru’s words brought a sigh of relief from everyone.
Although their anxiety hadn’t entirely disappeared, they wanted to trust him for now.
“Um, so, for now, we can assume we won’t be dragged into troublesome situations, right?”
“For the time being. We know the Progenitor cannot revive if countermeasures are in place. Of course, this all depends on the Progenitor’s bloodline not doing anything foolish.”
“Then I must offer you my sincerest apologies.”
“—What! Who’s there!”
“…We didn’t even notice.”
“Damn it!”
Jared clenched his fist, Pfyl drew a dagger, and Rosa pulled a knife from her pocket.
The voice came from behind Jared and the others. The door leading to the hallway was closed, but someone had undoubtedly intruded.
“Show yourself. Otherwise, I’ll destroy this mansion to attack you.”
Haru’s overly forceful threat elicited a wry smile from the unseen individual.
“My, my, this is why dragons are frightening. I am impressed you can speak so boldly within someone else’s mansion.”
Slowly, a boy’s figure emerged before the door.
He had flaxen hair, a gentle smile, and appeared to be no older than his mid-teens.
“…Could it be… you are?”
The boy smiled at Haru’s surprised exclamation, then immediately turned his gaze to Jared.
“Who are you?”
“Nice to meet you, Jared Murphy. I’m Rasmus. I am a direct descendant of the Progenitor.”
“—!”
The moment the boy—Rasmus—announced himself, Jared kicked off the floor.
In an instant, he closed in on the boy who maintained his smile, circulating magic within his body to explosively enhance his physical prowess, and unleashed a punch with all his might.
“Oh, that was close.”
However, Jared’s punch was too easily caught by the boy with one hand. Rasmus then gently gripped Jared’s hand, initiating a one-sided handshake.
“What did you come here for?”
“I have only one purpose: to ask for your help.”
This is the last post of 2018.
Thank you very much.
