We live at the foothills of Dragon Peak.
A pride to hold.
“Is that the other form of the Dragon Race?”
“Yeah. It’s cool, isn’t it!”
“You’re not saying Elnea will grow wings and a tail, are you?”
“That’s not happening. That’s an ability only the top warriors of the Dragon Race can master.”
“Hmm. So what Ign meant by ‘this isn’t even close to his true power’ was about his transformation ability?”
“I think Lady Cerise is probably right?”
Looking up at the sky where the Dragon Kings had flown off, I exchanged words with Listea and Lady Cerise.
Mr. Rudoriad and the others hastily returned to the fortress, with no time to spare to cherish the lingering heartwarming afterglow left by the Dragon Kings, as they had to deal with the advancing Demon Race army from the north and the formation of troops to be dispatched to the capital.
“So, Elnea, what are you going to do now?”
“Before that, Elnea-kun. Could you introduce us to the women you have there? And while you’re at it, the young dragons clinging to you?”
“Waaah. It’s cruel to say they’re clinging!”
“They’re not clinging!”
Yes, that’s right. Thank you for coming to my aid. I petted Fiorina and Rim. They closed their eyes contentedly and purred. Listea and Lady Cerise smiled at the sight of the adorable two. I briefly introduced them.
Lady Cerise seemed interested in the cute young dragons. However, perhaps realizing it wasn’t the time for play, she unconsciously tried to stretch out her right hand, which was playing with them, but desperately held it back with her left. Changing her focus, Lady Cerise turned her gaze to Lyra. However, there was no special reaction. I guess Lady Cerise and the others don’t know Lyra’s whole story. Judging by Mr. Rudoriad’s lack of reaction as well, it seems to be an incident not widely known in the Armēdo Kingdom. Regardless of that.
Just as I was about to introduce Lyra, she moved on her own.
“My name is Lyra.”
Uncharacteristically for the shy Lyra, she boldly clung to me and announced herself.
“I am Elnea-sama’s one and only wife!”
“What!?”
Lyra’s self-introduction surprised not only Listea and Lady Cerise, but me as well. I didn’t know that! What would happen if Louisyene and the others heard those words…
Lyra made a fist, as if declaring victory, but her face was bright red, and she shyly tried to hide behind my back. Honestly. Either be happy about your preemption or be embarrassed about announcing yourself in front of people and clinging to me.
With a wry smile, I pulled Lyra closer. It was meant to be a casual gesture, but Listea and Lady Cerise were greatly surprised.
“To think Elnea would be so bold with a girl.”
“Elnea-kun. What about Louisyene…”
It seemed I had surprised them for the wrong reason.
“Uh. There’s actually a slight addition to Lyra’s introduction. Louisyene is also my bride!”
“Elnea has two wives!?”
“Elnea-kun. What about your twin elder sisters…”
They were even more surprised.
“Uh. To be more specific, Yufi and Nina too… a total of five, I guess…”
“F-five!?”
“Elnea-kun. And the last one is…”
Hahaha. I said it in a lighthearted manner, but their faces were contorting. This is troublesome. It’s hard to continue this conversation when Mistral and the others aren’t all present. I have to change the subject somehow. I’m not trying to change the subject to escape! I thought of an excuse that didn’t make sense to anyone, and Lord Yugra scoffed at me.
Speaking of Lord Yugra. I had forgotten about Friel and the others. I’m sorry. When I tried to introduce Friel, Listea and the others seemed to know him.
“Prince Friel. It’s been a while.”
“Your Highness. We are grateful for your assistance this time.”
“It’s been a while to both of you as well.”
It seems the three of them met when Listea and the others went on an adventure towards Yorttenitos a few years ago. Friel introduced Lord Yugra and his three attendants. The three attendants were on Lord Yugra’s back. But seeing the Dragon Kings, they must have judged that they no longer needed to hold back with me. All three had already transformed.
Their divine figures, with golden wings and tails, radiated overwhelming dragon energy as they soared into the sky.
“We will fight too.”
“We owe Dragon King Elnea a lot of favors.”
“My Lord. Please forgive me for leaving your side for a while.”
With that, the three attendants flew into the sky above the capital.
“I will return to annihilate the undead as well!”
Friel, after a brief farewell with Listea and the others, returned to Lord Yugra’s back. We can’t afford to be leisurely any longer. Even though the Wyverns and the Dragon Race members rushed to our aid, the great demon Yan’s forces numbered around ten thousand. The Demon Race army, having broken through the fierce attacks of the Dragon Peak Alliance, could attack the fortress at any moment. We had to move on to our next course of action quickly.
“Lady Revalia. We’re going too!”
Lyra moved to Revalia’s back. Revalia, with a hmph, turned away but accepted Lyra. Then, she flapped her wings fiercely and prepared to soar into the sky. Fiorina and Rim hurried to climb onto Revalia’s back.
It wasn’t like we were trying to escape Lord Yugra’s gaze.
“Fio. Why haven’t you returned to the valley?”
Fiorina, the one who absolutely refused to meet Lord Yugra’s painful gaze, was so cute. Listea and Lady Cerise tensed up at the wind and power Revalia was stirring up. However, Duranel reacted to Lyra and Revalia’s behavior.
“Hmph. Just because you’re big doesn’t mean you’re a good wyvern if you’re at the mercy of a mere human girl. Carrying humans on your back means you have no pride as a dragon.”
Duranel purred with an energy that belied the fact that he had been glaring with bloodshot eyes just moments before. It wasn’t a time for wry smiles, seeing him regain his spirit the moment the glare disappeared.
Revalia’s four pupils glowed with a terrifying light.
“Revalia!”
I instantly used Spatial Jump. That was a close call. I jumped in front of Duranel and spread my arms wide. After the jump and a brief loss of focus, Revalia’s face, mouth wide open, came into view before me. A red flame flickered deep in her throat, and a heatwave that felt like it would bake my skin washed over my body. The air around Revalia’s mouth wavered from the high temperature.
“Revalia, you can’t.”
“R-Lady Revalia…”
On Revalia’s back, Lyra was speechless. She couldn’t keep up with Revalia’s reaction, who had fallen for Duranel’s cheap provocation. If I hadn’t intervened… Duranel would surely have been decapitated and reduced to charcoal. Duranel also belatedly realized his foolishness and froze.
Listea and Lady Cerise, terrified by the sudden conflict between the dragons, huddled together. Even the hero seemed bewildered by the intense atmosphere of the dragons, with whom he was not familiar. And Revalia’s appearance was more imposing than other wyverns. I believe this is a reaction that clearly shows how feared dragons like Revalia are by humans, rather than Listea’s weakness.
“Revalia, you can’t.”
At my repeated words, Revalia finally closed her mouth. However, her sharp gaze was still piercing Duranel.
“The weaker ones bark the loudest.”
Revalia growled, still glaring at Duranel.
“Don’t lump me in with you. I am carrying these individuals by my own will. I carry Dragon Kings and Dragon Princesses, not some half-baked knight like you.”
If I withdrew, Revalia looked like she could kill Duranel in an instant. She was exuding that much killing intent. Listea was sweating nervously from the terrifying killing intent emanating from Revalia, once known as the Tyrant. Lady Cerise was completely terrified and hid behind Listea.
“The dragons living in the eastern plains are all weaklings.”
“What, are you mocking us easterners! We are the proud Eastern Dragons!”
“What is pride? Is it not carrying humans? What pride can a weakling who has fallen to the position of being used by mere humans possibly have?”
It was amazing that Duranel, though intimidated by Revalia’s pressure, tried to retort. But that was all. His words were no match for Revalia.
“Don’t mistake the pride of your race for your own pride. You weaklings are not worthy of the pride of your race. If you want to radiate might as a dragon, why don’t you first become a capable individual? You have fallen to being a mount. Then, what pride should you be speaking of now? The honor of a mount lies in the achievements of your partner Dragon Knight. Whether you can bestow honor and merit upon the Dragon Knight you carry is your forte. For you to insult and look down upon mere humans, your partners, and others, how foolish can you be? To disrespect the Dragon Knight you carry is to say that you yourself, as a partner, are incompetent. You probably don’t even realize that, which is why you’re a weakling. Let me say it again. I carry Dragon Kings and Dragon Princesses. Don’t lump me in with you.”
“Dragon Kings and Dragon Princesses…”
Duranel grumbled. Revalia, having said what she wanted, seemed to have calmed down, and the killing intent subsided. Then, Listea, who had managed to move, looked towards me, as if checking on me. For Listea and the others, who lack a dragon heart, it must have appeared as a tense standoff between dragons. In reality, Duranel was unilaterally suppressed by Revalia’s pressure, but they were both growling at each other.
“It’s okay. We’re fine. More importantly, we have to move quickly. I have to go to the West Fortress next!”
“The West Fortress? We’ll stay here and assist Mr. Rudoriad.”
“Yes. Listea, please do that.”
“Is it okay to leave the West to you? Aren’t the demons approaching there too?”
“Yes, but it’s okay. They won’t be as organized as our forces here.”
The West. While it’s true that we don’t know exactly where they’ll appear from. It’s certain that Beast Demon General Nelytz and his subordinate demon forces are approaching. However, they are not a cohesive unit like Yan’s army. Since they moved individually across the Dragon Peak, it was difficult to pursue them, but that also means they will arrive individually in this capital, which is their destination. Even a small force like mine can handle that. However, if the West Fortress falls and Nelytz’s army invades the capital, it will be a disaster. That’s why I had to hurry to the West. Listea and the others will remain at the North Fortress and engage any fleeing demons that the Dragon Peak Alliance missed. I’m grateful for that. Even if only a few get away, they are still a threat to humans. Having the strength of heroes like Listea here provides more peace of mind.
“Hoh. The West?”
Revalia looked down at me. I had a bad feeling.
“Alright, I’ll take you.”
“Huh!?”
Before I could protest. Revalia grabbed me with her front leg, or rather, her hand, and flapped her wings fiercely, soaring into the sky.
“Wait a minute. Revalia and the others are in charge of the Wyvern Hunting Ground.”
“Heh, how boring. I’ll leave that to the others.”
“How arbitrary!”
How selfish! She looked so dignified and cool when she was reasoning with Duranel, but she ruined it!
“We too shall return to our duties.”
Lord Yugra, without scolding Fiorina and the others, gracefully flapped his wings and left the scene. He returned to the skies above the capital.
“Amazing, Elnea. You were so calm with that terrifying Wyvern.”
“Yes. To use a Wyvern so casually as a means of transport. I’m sure they’re loyally following Elnea-kun’s instructions.”
On the ground, Listea and Lady Cerise looked up at me and Revalia with mistaken gazes. It’s not like that! I’m being abducted. Once firmly grasped by Revalia, I couldn’t move anymore. Still held by Revalia, I proceeded west through the sky.
