After a death struggle with a Siren, we finally laid eyes on God’s Island.
The ship finally approached the rocks surrounding God’s Island. Just as Kashalo said, the ship suddenly began to be swept away as if there were an invisible line. The captain busily turned the helm left and right.
“Everyone, grab on near the cabin. It’s going to shake.”
I pulled Piyo closer so I wouldn’t fall off the ship. The whale spirit was struggling to hold on, even as it crashed into the rough waves. It must be exhausted from all this. Just a little more.
“Ugh, I feel sick.”
“Karubene, hang in there.”
The excessive rocking made Karubene seasick. Piyo’s face was also pale. Everyone else looked listless too. I started to feel dizzy myself. After all, we were being violently shaken up, down, left, and right.
“Ughhh, puke!”
The Sea Tiger was the first to go down. Wait, aren’t they used to being on ships? It was vomiting into the sea through a gap in the railing.
“Ugh, was eating raw fish a mistake?”
I looked away to avoid getting sick myself. What a nuisance. Then, how much time passed? When it finally stopped, everyone’s faces were ashen.
“Alright, we made it through. Hey, who puked on the ship? That’s disgusting.”
Kashalo kicked the fallen Sea Tiger overboard. A shriek was heard from below.
“Well, we’ve arrived safely. That’s all for my job. But be careful, those Sirens have made nests on this cliff.”
“There’s one thing I’d like to ask. I heard this island was once a place where sinners washed ashore. What is it like now?”
“I don’t know that either. Because I’ve never explored the whole island. Normally, you can’t even get here. You need this.”
Kashalo grinned and took out the scale I had given him. What was this scale?
“With this, the waves here calm down slightly. I noticed it when I brought the Chieftain. I couldn’t exactly snatch it from the Chieftain, could I?”
Had I really given this monster something incredible? Well, let’s not think about it too deeply. By the way, the place where the ship is currently docked is a section of the rock wall that has been partially carved away. It might have been dug by hand, as stairs are built to go up.
Perhaps sinners were brought onto the island through here. The stone steps are quite old, but fortunately, they are wide enough for Philiana to pass.
“Thank you very much.”
“Yeah, don’t die.”
Kashalo, with a pipe in his mouth, went back to the cabin. As we parted, our eyes met with the Light Scale Dancer.
“Don’t lose that compass. The needle reacts to the White Rose.”
With that, she returned to her ship along with a glowing flying fish. The White Rose, I’ve heard that name somewhere before. That’s right, at the end of the poem describing the path to heaven, it said that one would reach the White Rose. I don’t know what it was a metaphor for, but is it in the direction the needle is pointing now?
The whale spirit rode the waves and disappeared in an instant.
“It really looks like a ghost ship. Well, shall we go up the stairs? The Harpies have probably already spotted us, so let’s be cautious.”
“I know that without you telling me.”
Nina was as tsundere as ever. I have to be careful not to miss a step on the stone stairs. Occasionally, rocks would crumble and fall. Below us was the sea, with churning waves. If I fell, I wouldn’t be saved.
“There are so many Harpies. Piyo is so different.”
Piyo was hopping up the stairs. It’s nice for those who can fly.
“I was scared. Can’t we talk to them?”
“Hmm, I don’t think so. Hey Piyo, I’m sorry for making you charge into the enemy ship.”
During the Deeohos battle, I made Piyo dive into the enemy ship. It was fine because the enemy fled then, but if countless arrows had been flying, it would have been dangerous. It was a difficult decision, but I shouldn’t have done it.
“Hmm? What? Did I charge?”
“You know, there was that enemy guy who was like a conductor?”
“Hmmm, oh, I remember. Did you see Piyo’s cool performance? I flew, avoided the arrows, and hid behind the sails.”
The one who did it was beaming, but I was now feeling guilty. What if even one arrow had hit.
“While Piyo set the sail on fire to distract the enemy, Veronica took them down. And I was sure Hiro would come too.”
Piyo, recalling the event, spoke excitedly. Yes, Piyo is much smarter than I thought. She doesn’t just charge in mindlessly because she was told to. She attacked after assessing the situation properly.
I almost patted Piyo’s head, then stopped.
“What’s wrong?”
“No, I just thought you were amazing. Thank you.”
Piyo smiled, showing her white teeth. She had the innocent face of a child, but she was now a woman and a warrior.
