The slime that eats clothes
The next morning, I woke up earlier than everyone else, so I went outside first and washed my face with water from a bucket. The rain that had been falling last night had stopped, and we were greeted with a refreshing morning.
“Hiro, good morning! Hey, look at this I found, what is it?”
Piyo, who was already up and full of energy, showed me something like jelly on her wing.
The jelly-like substance was transparent, like water. I couldn’t feel anything even when I touched it.
“I’m going to wake everyone up with this!”
With that, she went into the cave where everyone was still sleeping. As I was about to rub the jelly on my clothes to prepare breakfast, I suddenly noticed a hole in my pants.
The hole widened rapidly, and a large hole appeared in the entire area where I had rubbed the jelly. Moreover, it felt like the amount was increasing.
“What is this, anyway…”
Just as I was about to call out to Piyo, a scream erupted from inside the cave.
“Yaaah! What is this?! My clothes are disappearing!”
I had a really bad feeling about this. Starting with Philiana’s voice, they came out of the cave one after another.
“What is this, my clothes are tattered!”
“Eek, what is this, it’s disgusting!”
Nina and Lauren came out at the same time, their clothes literally in tatters, and they were hiding their bodies with both arms.
“This is terrible, Hiro! We’re being attacked by enemies!”
Philiana was in the same state, almost naked, with only her underwear barely remaining. Furthermore, the increased jelly-like substances were clinging to her whole body, making the situation disastrous.
“Ah, sorry! For the time being, put something on!”
I averted my eyes and took off my upper garment. It wouldn’t be enough to cover everything, but it was better than nothing.
Just as I thought that, Sharin suddenly appeared before me.
“Arisugawa, be careful! These things will melt your clothes.”
As she spoke, her upper garment had melted, and the strap of her underwear was hanging by a thread.
“Whoa! You should be the one to be careful!”
“It’s too late for me.”
“Don’t say that, wear this!”
I handed my jacket to Sharin. From behind, Nina’s angry voice could be heard.
“Hey, why are you the only one safe?!”
“Uh, well…”
“Don’t look over here!!”
As I turned around, drawn by her voice, I was knocked down by Nina’s tail.
“Oh dear, that’s quite a predicament, bringing such a thing here.”
Elana came up to me as I lay on the ground. Already naked, she seemed unaffected.
“Do you know what this is?”
“Yes, this is slime. As you can see, it’s mostly made of water. Usually, they avoid dryness and stay in the ground, but they come out and gather when it rains. Their food is plant fibers and leaves. But their favorite is clothes; they’re soft and delicious, aren’t they?”
So this was the slime that appeared at the beginning of the adventure… It seemed a little different from what I remembered. As she said, it seemed harmless to the human body, but it was the worst possible start to the morning.
