I pretended to have slaves with me and succeeded in infiltrating the tent.
“Ah, ah, thank you for your hard work.”
What on earth did that mean? Did it succeed? I tried to catch Sharin’s eye, but I didn’t get much of a reaction.
“A snake! There’s a snake!”
Suddenly, Sharin pointed at the man’s feet and screamed. The man hastily stood up from his chair. Huh? Why did I say that? This isn’t according to plan. Could it be that Sharin forgot? Is that possible?
“Where is it? Ugh, go away!”
The man was panicking about the snake at his feet.
“Please step back. It’s poisonous.”
Sharin stood in front of the man as if to shield him and thrust her dagger into the snake’s head. She struck the tip of the sword repeatedly. The snake, which was originally a corpse, didn’t twitch.
“There. Now it’s safe.”
“Haa, such misfortunes keep happening today. I ended up being saved by my customer’s slave.”
The man wiped the sweat from his forehead and sat back down in his chair. Seeing that, Sharin turned to look at me.
“And I have a report. One of the slaves wants to speak with you, master. Please go outside for a moment.”
Was the talk about the plan failing, as Lauren suggested? I apologized to the man and left the tent.
“Hey, what was that about…”
“I got the key. Let’s go.”
Before I could finish, Sharin ran off. Along the way, Lauren appeared from the darkness, holding the key. I have things I want to ask, but rescuing the boy is more important now. Fortunately, there was no one around the carriage where the cage was. But, of course, the door was locked.
I tried to insert each of the many keys one by one. Maybe it was because I was flustered, but it wasn’t going well.
“H-hey, hurry up. S-someone might c-come.”
“I know, but… there! It opened.”
Inside, a Centaur boy was huddled fearfully at the edge of the cage.
“Wait a moment, I’ll get you out now.”
With Sharin’s help, I managed to unlock the cage. However, the boy was scared and wouldn’t come out.
“Come on, hurry. It’s okay. Your family has come to help you, though it’s just one person.”
The word “family” brightened the boy’s face.
“Huh? Really? It must be Father.”
He happily came out of the cage. Now, all that’s left is to find his Father…
“Hey! What are you doing there!”
Of course, we were discovered. It was natural. They wouldn’t have taken their eyes off the most important thing for so long. I grabbed the boy’s hand and ran with all my might.
