Karubene, having reflected, handed over his hidden money and cut off his retreat.
Karubene smiled as usual and clapped me on the back.
“So, please take care of it, Brother.”
“I’m feeling pretty good about this, but there won’t be a next time.”
She gave a noncommittal reply and wandered off somewhere.
When I returned to the hut, Sharin was organizing the luggage.
“Ah, Arisugawa, everyone’s gone to help prepare lunch. Also, we were able to get some supplies necessary for our journey, albeit a small amount.”
“Oh, that’s good to hear. Thank you. Shall we go too?”
Sharin nodded happily at my words. Lunch consisted of grilled white fish, a fruit like a banana, and crayfish. The crayfish, in particular, seemed to be quite a delicacy among them. It tasted a little muddy, but I had already gotten used to it since coming to this world.
While we were happily eating, I happened to notice Cecilia. She was eating politely, without joining the conversation.
“Hey, Cecilia, I have a small favor to ask.”
“Huh? What is it?”
As always, she replied with a look of annoyance.
“Um, about Karubene, you know him, right? So, I want you to keep an eye on him. He tends to drink too much; he’s addicted.”
“Hah? Why should I look after that puke… ugh, vomit woman?”
Cecilia pressed her hand to her mouth as if disgusted.
“Honestly, I should be the one to do it, but I’m overwhelmed with my own matters and can’t really look after him. Plus, he’s quick to sneak away when you’re not looking. In that regard, Cecilia, you have sharp eyes and strength, so I think you’re the right person for the job.”
“I agree!”
Nina, who had been listening to me, raised her hand energetically. Everyone else, though not fully understanding, voiced their agreement.
“Whaaat, sighs… I really should have gone back sooner. Why do I have to look after that puke woman?”
Cecilia grumbled, but there was no one else who could watch him with as much composure. For now, I’ll leave this to Cecilia and asked Remia about what to do next. I spread out the map and explained our destination.
“Hmm, Zetsuky. I’m sorry, I don’t know much about it. But I can take you to the fishing village up ahead. This place is quite large, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find a ship willing to take you. You might even be able to get your lost luggage here.”
Upon further inquiry, it seemed the fishing village was a place dominated by humans. There might be ships, but based on past experience, I wasn’t sure if they would give us passage. She also seemed to have never actually been there. However, since we were making no progress by staying here, I decided to trust Remia’s word and depart tomorrow.
