Finally, the group witnessed the moment the werewolf transformed.
With Veronica at the front, they chased after them from a distance. The werewolves bit through the ropes holding the fence and forcefully broke through. Once inside, they headed towards the hut where the sheep were sleeping. They then gnawed through the hut’s door as well and barged in.
Attacked by predators in the middle of the night, the sheep cried out all at once and scattered in confusion. A few of them strayed from the flock and bolted outside. The werewolves, accustomed to this, surrounded and herded them. The remaining sheep, with their natural enemies gone, quieted down as if nothing had happened. This way, they could steal them before their master noticed.
The werewolves led the sheep towards this way. Surely, they intended to go around through the forest and reach the coast. They sniffed around, searching for their companions. However, those two were not there. Sharin and Nina, and Lauren, who had followed them, had probably caught them successfully.
One of the werewolves, suspicious, stepped into the forest. As soon as all three of them entered, Elana’s attack began. I felt nervous that they wouldn’t notice our scent, causing me to sweat even more.
“This way, this way! Hurry!!”
At that moment, the man who had gone to the village earlier returned. He was faster than expected; this was bad. The werewolves were immediately sensed by many villagers.
Screams erupted from the villagers who saw the monstrous figures.
“Wh-what is that!”
“Aah! Hurry, hurry and kill it!”
Before we could stop them, the wolves immediately abandoned the sheep and fled into the forest. Villagers wielding farming tools chased after them.
“Wait, it’s dangerous to chase now.”
I desperately tried to stop the men who were trying to pursue them too deeply.
“What are you doing, get out of the way! Ah, they got away.”
“In the forest, the wolves have a complete advantage. Even if you chase now, you’ll be defeated.”
My persuasion made the villagers reluctantly stop, though they grumbled. Although the enemy’s identity was revealed, now that they were on alert, a different strategy was needed. I hoped we could find a weakness.
Just then, the three who had chased the man returned. Nina threw the two she had dragged onto the ground.
“Look, we caught them. It seems these guys are really just ordinary humans. And there was a ship hidden near the coast.”
Seeing them all wrapped up in thread, it seemed Lauren had done her job well. They were immediately thrown into the cell we had been in. The sailors looked at us with half-smiles.
“Heh heh, catching us is meaningless. The wolves are still roaming free.”
“We’ll catch them now.”
At my words, the man laughed mockingly.
“Hahaha, is that so? Do your best. Well, aren’t you going already? You’ll all be eaten like that woman.”
“That woman you’re talking about, Mary? Why did you kill her?”
“Huh? You probably already know, but she was the one pulling the strings. She said she wanted to go to the outside world someday, but she got troublesome when she threatened to expose us if we didn’t take her now, so she was killed.”
The man laughed again, calling them foolish sheep.
