He headed towards the subjugation with silver trinkets, which are the weakness of werewolves.
The forest where the werewolves fled into was dense and eerily quiet. It was as if they were patiently waiting for prey to come. Lauren was trembling beside me.
“Um, can’t we just wait ’til morning?”
“No, if we don’t stop them, they’ll cause trouble.”
At Nina’s words, Lauren reluctantly started walking. Veronica and Sharin led the way again, advancing through the forest with caution. The light from the lantern seemed to shrink, as if sensing the mood.
“So, how are you going to defeat them? You have some secret strategy, don’t you?”
“It’s not a secret strategy, but I’m planning to make this into a projectile and have Piyo shoot it.”
Piyo tilted her head, looking at the silver trinket in my hand.
“Huh? Are you going to do something, Piyo?”
“Sorry to interrupt your conversation, but here come the wolves.”
At Veronica’s voice, I looked ahead and saw red glowing eyes emerge from the darkness. There were three of them, slowly approaching from the front. It seemed they had confirmed our presence and were running towards us, with the one in the middle in the lead. As expected, they rushed towards us at an incredible speed. The sheer ferocity almost froze my body, making me want to give up on life.
While everyone was frozen in place, Elana darted out like the wind and unleashed fire towards the front. A pillar of fire erupted from the impact point, disrupting the wolves’ formation.
“Hey, what are you doing?! If you’re going to do something, hurry up!”
Following her, Veronica also attacked with fire from her hands. There wasn’t much time for explanations. I sandwiched a silver teaspoon between Piyo’s wings.
“We’re going to launch this with Piyo’s explosion. Think you can do it?”
“Ehh?! O-okay, I’ll try. But I don’t know if I can, because I’ve never done it before.”
Without guns or stakes, this was the only alternative. Honestly, it was a gamble; I wasn’t sure if it would work.
“Aim carefully. Concentrate the explosion in one spot and imagine pushing this spoon out.”
I placed my hands on Piyo’s wings from behind. One of them broke through Elana’s flames and headed towards us. It bared its thick fangs, intending to eliminate the troublesome her. With every approaching step, the ground seemed to shake with its power.
In my arms, I could feel Piyo holding her breath and stiffening her body. Involuntarily, she leaned towards me, trying to escape.
“Alright, lure them in close enough. It’s okay, I’m behind you. Only you can do this, Piyo. No one else in this team can do this. Believe in yourself.”
When I tightened my grip, Piyo also adjusted her wings accordingly. She possessed an instinctual sharpness that couldn’t be explained by logic. Her intuition had saved us many times on our journey.
The werewolf leaped towards Elana from a few meters away. She narrowly dodged it. Compared to her, it looked like a newborn baby and an adult. From its landing posture, it swung its thick arm towards Elana, who was showing its back.
“Now!!”
At my shout, a dry explosion echoed through the forest.
