Escaping the village, their retreat was blocked by two figures.
The two shadows that stood in our path were girls. They were still children. They had the same faces and wore the same clothes, each holding a staff in their right hand. They seemed to be twin Dark Elf magicians.
“Excuse me, ladies, but could you move aside?”
To Karubene’s greeting, they responded with disdainful smiles.
“Fufu, you know it’s impossible, right? We’ve been aware of your movements since you arrived in town.”
“Did you really think you could escape so easily?”
Philiana drew her sword and took the lead.
“It’s a shame, I don’t want to be violent towards children, but. Veronica, Nina, I’ll need your support.”
She assumed a posture with her sword and ran towards the twins. The two followed behind her.
“How foolish, don’t underestimate us just because we’re children!”
Suddenly, the ground shook, and the path before them changed as if it had been violently struck. The ground beneath Philiana’s feet rose, blowing her into the forest. Veronica dodged it and charged. But a gust of wind blew, and even Veronica was slammed to the ground.
“Gah, damn it, these guys.”
“Philiana, are you okay?!”
Nina leaped into the bushes. I hurriedly followed her.
“I-I’m fine. I can’t believe they use Earth attribute magic. I underestimated them a little.”
As I helped Philiana up, I heard the twins’ laughter from behind.
“Kyahaha, see, I told you. You shouldn’t judge people by their appearance.”
“Consider it a life lesson. Well, you’re about to die here.”
We had been cleanly driven into the forest. There was a slightly open area, as if it had been planned from the start for us to fight here. Hiding Piyo and Pauline behind me, we got into position. Elana stepped forward and opened her mouth.
“It seems they can control Earth and Wind. But the question is whether they can only control one attribute each, or if both can use both.”
“Then I’ll go find out!”
Saying that, Nina pounced towards the two standing in front. But her charge was blocked by the rumbling ground. With unstable footing, it was disadvantageous for Nina.
“Impatience won’t do, you need to understand your opponent first.”
“That’s right. Well then, let me introduce ourselves. I’m Delia, and this is Labona.”
The one holding the staff in her right hand was Delia, and the one holding it in her left was Labona. Nina, whose attack had failed, looked frustrated. Then, the two vanished with a puff of smoke.
“What, where did they go?!”
“Here, right here.”
Looking left and right, as if by magic, the two stood there. It seemed we had been stalled by the two magicians.
