Veronica weakened when exposed to sunlight.
Surrounded by Kobolds, Veronica was finally knocked to the ground. Her resistance was in vain; she could only defend herself. Even if she tried to retrieve Pauline, any rash move would cost her life. Just then, the man began to flip through his book and mutter to himself.
“This is bad. He’s planning to blow up Veronica along with the Kobolds.”
Elana’s words caused her heart to ache as if it had been gripped. There was no time; she had no choice but to charge in.
“Veronica, run! He’s trying to blow you up!”
It was no use. She had finally exhausted her strength and stopped moving. The triumphant Kobolds then turned their attention to Pauline.
“Philiana, Nina, Karubene, stop the enemy’s movements. Sharin, you and I will handle the rescue. Cecilia, you take care of that magician.”
Cecilia darted past me.
“I don’t need to be told. I’ll cut off his long ears.”
A battle began anew with Cecilia at the front. We had to rescue the two before the incantation was finished. I kicked away a Kobold that pounced at me.
“Get out of the way! Veronica, wake up, hurry and escape!”
I called out to her from a distance, but she seemed to be unconscious and showed no signs of movement. I kicked away the Beastmen clinging to me. But just as I faced them, a swordsman, sword in hand, blocked my path as if waiting for me.
“Hiroaki! Wait for me, Piyo! Come on, cover me!”
“Roger!”
Nina, perhaps seeing my predicament, rushed towards me. But the wolves waiting beside the magician blocked her. Nina deftly dodged their fangs, but one tried to bite her long tail. Just then, Piyo swooped in from behind at a low altitude. He intended to hit them with an explosion.
However, as if anticipating his move, another wolf left Nina and bit Piyo’s wing. Flying low, he was dragged to the ground.
“Nina, forget about me and save Piyo!”
At the same moment I shouted, Piyo suddenly spun his body as he neared the ground. Wreathed in sparks like a small tornado, he shook off the wolf’s bite. Then, he soared back into the sky. Nina, who had been watching, seemed surprised for a moment, but quickly turned back to me. She lunged at the swordsman in front of me from behind.
I slipped past the enemy and ran towards Veronica. Piyo, meanwhile, was chased by wolves but joined Elana. The pale wolves, having been outsmarted, had been neatly led astray.
“Oh my, you are quite the mage. Well then, it’s two against two, let’s stop them together.”
“Alright, bring it on!”
After ensuring Piyo was safe, I met Sharin’s gaze as he approached.
