Upon learning of a horrific ritual taking place beneath the town, the three of them decided to report it to the lord.
The lord listened to our story, his hand resting on his chin as he grunted.
“I see, and do you have any proof?”
“Only this memo.”
I casually showed him the memo Sharin had brought. Immediately, a nervous-looking retainer standing nearby interjected.
“Just this one piece of paper?! Did they really investigate? They’re just spouting nonsense. Philiana, did you see it yourself?”
Philiana shook her head awkwardly.
“Demons, rituals, that sort of mumbo jumbo, there’s no way it’s real.”
“Hmmm, without any proof, there’s not much I can say.”
It seemed the lord and his retainer wouldn’t believe us, as expected. I continued.
“However, it is certain that there are people being held captive underground. To prevent further sacrifices, please cooperate with us.”
But the lord didn’t nod in agreement. Sharin shrugged as if accepting the situation.
“It seems we have no choice but to do this ourselves. We’ll have to contact the Harpy tribe’s village and ask for their help.”
I nodded at her words. Just then, the room’s door burst open with a loud bang, and a guard stumbled in, breathless.
“What is the meaning of this?!”
The lord stood up, raising his voice at the guard who entered without knocking.
“L-look outside. Monsters have suddenly appeared in the town…!”
At the guard’s words, everyone in the room simultaneously looked out the window. On the street below, people were fleeing in panic, and behind them, monsters with wings were chasing them.
“Wh-what is that?!”
“I don’t know either.”
While the lord and his retainer were exchanging words, I spoke to a nearby guard.
“Excuse me, I just need a few people. Please come with us. And I need you to release our captured companions.”
I went outside with a few guards, Piyo, and Nina. The town was in utter panic due to the sudden turn of events.
“It seems we were one step too late. They’re probably emerging from underground.”
Led by Sharin, we descended back into the underground.
