I listened to the performance of the popular band, Dragon Triangle.
“It was only for a moment, but it was a wonderful performance.”
Philiana smiled faintly, looking satisfied. I was surprised, as I never expected to see something so amazing. When the live show ended, the fans who had gathered from nowhere disappeared all at once. I’m sure they have a network for information, like where they’ll perform next. If they’re going to put on such a show, they should rent out a venue. With this many people, they could at least cover their costs.
When I returned to the lodging, everyone was still agitated and talking amongst themselves. They chatted happily on the beds, truly like ordinary girls. I was tired from all the activities of the day, but I still had something to do. I had a feeling Mismol was waiting for me at the rocky area where we had met before. And I had to ask him to introduce me to the witch of the deep sea.
I quietly slipped out of the lodging and returned to the deserted beach. Relying only on the lantern’s light, I ventured into the darkness. Along the way, I tripped over something and almost fell several times.
“Ah, Arisugawa-kun, I’ve been waiting for you.”
“I knew you’d be here. I wanted to tell you my thoughts, too.”
He had been waiting for me, too, wondering if I wanted to see him.
“It was amazing! I had no idea you were such a famous band. I could see you even from far away.”
When I praised him, he smiled bashfully.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. Was I strange? Everyone always tells me I’m unnecessary.”
“Do they say that? Of course you’re necessary! You’re amazing, so why don’t you rent a venue?”
Then, he showed a complex expression.
“Well, you heard it too, right? The Siren’s voice, that’s the vocalist. His voice holds magic and confuses listeners. It’s like a sound drug, so he can’t perform for long, and the police find him quickly.”
Siren? That sounded different from my image of a Siren. I thought Sirens were female mermaids, monsters with the power to lure sailors with their beautiful singing voices.
“A Siren? He wasn’t a mermaid, though.”
“He’s half Siren and half human. It seems to be a race called Wajinryo, I don’t really understand it myself, but apparently, their fins disappear when they come ashore.”
I never expected Wajinryo to appear here. But Aileen and Alex didn’t know they existed.
“He was taken in by a Siren, so he can sing with magical power. But he seems to have run away because he didn’t want it to be misused.”
So, he was a Siren’s adopted son. That would explain why he could captivate so many people. When our conversation paused, he took out a small dagger from behind him.
“Ah, I wanted to give this to you. It’s a gift from fans. If I have too many, I just end up selling them, so please use it. Well, you’re not my fan, but it’s okay, isn’t it?”
I accepted the beautifully decorated dagger from Mismol. When I pulled it from the sheath, a polished, new blade appeared. Intricate patterns were carved on it as well.
“Are you sure? This looks so expensive. It’s perfect, because the one I was using is getting dirty.”
I gently touched the beautiful blade.
“No!! Don’t touch the blade!”
For some reason, he stopped me. Surprised, I instinctively pulled my hand back.
“It’s okay, I won’t get injured.”
“No, that’s an Enchanted Sword. Electricity flows when you touch the blade. Don’t you know? Weapons with pre-assigned attributes are called Enchanted Weapons. There are many types, but since you don’t seem to do magic, I made one that can activate automatically.”
Enchanted Weapon? What a cool-sounding name. Being able to imbue a weapon with attributes, it’s so romantic. And I can use it even though I can’t use magic.
According to his explanation, some activate in response to the user’s own magic power, and their effects vary depending on the attribute, such as fire or water. I had grown fond of the feather decoration on my old dagger, so I removed it and attached it to the new one.
