I almost lost my heart to the allure of the Vampire sisters.
What a terrible ordeal. I was suddenly dragged to the mansion and then it was a “naked connection.” No, I don’t mean it like that; we just took a bath together.
Right now, I’m under house arrest in one of the many rooms in the mansion. The clothes I was wearing were, of course, replaced by new ones. Annoyingly, this gray suit looks quite expensive. Standing in front of the mirror, I feel like I look about 20% more handsome. I think.
Just then, there was a knock, and a young man entered. He’s probably one of the servants here. He’s not that tall and gives off a slender impression. What’s distinctive is that one of his eyes is golden, and the other is a deep blue.
“Excuse me. My name is Rune. Please tell me anything you need.”
The young man, who called himself Rune, bowed politely. He, too, was wearing a collar with a chain attached. If he says anything, I have a lot of questions.
“I see. Then, let me ask, what is that collar of yours? Do Vampires put collars on those of lower status, even among their own kind?”
Rune seemed to realize something and touched his neck. His golden eyes flickered with unease.
“Th-this… I am a servant, so, you see…”
“I understand. So you’re a Vampire too, huh? Hey, are humans that valuable?”
He probably didn’t expect to be asked questions so suddenly. He seemed to be contemplating what to do.
“Y-yes. Probably.”
“Probably? Don’t you feel anything? You said they smelled good.”
“That’s, um, because I’m not a Vampire. I, I…”
Why is he hesitating? Is there a rule preventing him from speaking his own race? He gripped the collar tightly.
“I am a Werewolf, commonly known as a man-wolf.”
A Werewolf! Is this young man one? I saw one on Sheep Island before. So he’s living in human form now. Does that mean the butler earlier was one too? Why are they working in a Vampire’s mansion?
“I’ve met your companions before. They were very strong, and I had a tough fight.”
“You fought? With a Werewolf? How?”
“I used some silver trinkets. Well, I didn’t defeat them.”
It was thanks to Piyo. They weren’t with Vampires then. Maybe it’s a different world.
“Is that so? That’s amazing.”
“Aren’t you angry? I injured one of your kind, you know.”
“They must have done something wrong, right?”
Well, yes. In this world, are Werewolves subjugated? Is there always someone above you?
“Hey, why are you wearing a collar? Don’t tell me you’re a slave too? Did something like a war happen?”
He didn’t answer. So, it must be true.
“Is that dominance still continuing? I see. But, I think you should be able to state your own race clearly.”
Rune looked up, asking “Huh?” His wide-open eyes were like a full moon.
“I’m saying this as one, but humans are said to be a race banished from paradise. Still, I was born this way, and I can’t become another race. I intend to live with pride, as a single human.”
I’ve decided to fight to the very end. It doesn’t matter if my opponent is an Elf.
“So, you too should be proud of your race. If you say things like, ‘Am I okay like this?’ it’s an insult to your ancestors and your current companions.”
“Hah… …*sob*… *gurgle*…”
Rune shed silent tears as if he were biting them back. I don’t know their history. But if you deny who you are, you can’t take a single step forward from there.
“I’m sorry, I’m a pathetic person. I originally came to this mansion because my eyes were liked. If I did anything to displease my masters, they said they would gouge out my eyes.”
As I suspected, he was being threatened. What cruel beings.
“Originally, Werewolves are strong beings that stand at the apex of the food chain. However, long ago, our ancestors were turned into Vampire familiars. Vampires dislike the morning sun, whereas we are unaffected by sunlight. A race that combined human intelligence with wolf power must have been convenient.”
The three Werewolves I met before were incredibly strong. If I hadn’t had silver then, I would have been devoured in an instant. To think their power could be surpassed, they seem to be opponents I can’t possibly match. I just need to find an opening to escape. Honestly, I want Rune to help me, but it would be a shame if his eyes were gouged out. I’ll do it myself.
Earlier, the Vampire said they disliked sunlight. If that’s for the same reason as the Dark Harpies, I might have a chance.
